Saw a bunch of motorcycles in Glennallen today. Talked to these three riders in front of the Caribou Restaurant

Two were from White Salmon, WA and one from Portland, OR. Next stop - Paxson and points north. Weather permitting. And from the looks of the clouds in every northern quadrant, it might not permit. Wouldn't surprise me to see those same bikes parked in front of the hotel tonight.

Anyone seen this weather advisory for the weekend? Weather Advisory

Might want to postpone "Spring" rides until... oh... say, July? :cry

And now... off to winter wonderland in beautiful downtown Slana.

Tripod still standing on the river at Nenana. Plenty cool and wet on the arm tonight. 36 F in Girdwood, maybe some snow again tonight. What a change from last week. Reminds me of TdF in the middle of summer 2011.

Hey, Steve, sweet Moto Guzzi. single cylinder, it looks like. there is a guy in Fairbanks they call Hook, because he is missing one hand, who rides an old Harley flathead with ski outriggers. And he rides it all winter. We met due to unfortunate circumstances, which is how I meet many people.

Looks like we might ride to D2D in some proximity, according to Butch. I look forward to it.

The Force is strong with this winter.

    Fairbanks

    Today:
Rain or mixed rain and snow developing in the morning...
Becoming all snow by evening. Snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches.
Heaviest amounts above 1500 feet. Highs in the lower to mid 40s.
West winds to 15 mph with gusts to 25 mph developing by late morning.

Tonight: Snow likely. Snow accumulation 1 to 3 inches. Heaviest amounts
above 1500 feet. Lows in the mid 20s. West winds to 15 mph with gusts
    to 25 mph.

We usually put a boat in the water at Big Lake on Memorial Day Weekend but the ice thickness report
says 21.5 inches of solid ice there. Maybe sometime in June?

    Great pic of the Guzzi.

So I guess the question now is
Are you and Butch riding the KLRs or taking the snow machines:rofl
    It's starting to stick dammit!
[IMG] I worked with a guy from Fairbanks called Hook 35 years ago. He was an equipment operator on the slope. ?.

I am NOT "summerizing" my Tundra until I am sure I wont need it for D2D. LOL

Could be the same Hook. He also does some photography stuff and is pretty much a grump. I do not recall how he lost the arm.

Beautiful downtown Slana experienced the same lousy weather over the weekend that the rest of the state managed to enjoy - snow most of Saturday and about 2" of fresh accumulation early Sunday AM. But the sun finally came out Sunday evening. Just as I was getting out from under the cloud cover I met a small, yellow dualsport heading toward Tok, looking as though the rider was chasing the clouds. Maybe he hasn't had enough snow this so-called "spring"?.

By this time tomorrow I expect to be having breakfast in Pittsburgh, PA - where it's been in the 80's the last few days. :rayof Next Sunday should see me heading for Key West to rid my body of any last vestiges of the white stuff that still surrounds the homeplace a foot deep. Then, meandering as last year, north and west, hopefully to the Huddy rancho to visit our recovering hero and Spousal Unit (without adding a quart every 300 miles).

Weather permitting, it might be on up to Prudhoe Bay before that trip is over and I switch to the KLR for the ride over to D2D, but I ain't countin' on it.

If the past week's weather continues, however, I may have to find me a rich, blue-haired widow to support me in the manner to which I wish to become accustomed, and stay in the land of sunny beaches and hurricanes. Have I mentioned that I'M SICK OF SNOW!

Rather than droplets of oil, SPOT will record my progress (or lack thereof): Spotwalla.

Try to have the snow all melted by the time I get back. Please!

Holy Cow, the Unit and I are rethinking coming up for D2D. We are concerned about getting too close to all the grumpy, verging on psychotic, Alaskans and Yukoners.

PS: Jack, we were in Phillipsburg again yesterday and I think they are up to 30-35 different flavors of fudge.

You know Murphy's Law, soon as you left...so did the stubbornest winter from hell! Thanks for going outside so the rest of us don't have to.:rofl. You're not the only one that was totally fed up with this %^&*. Have a good trip. We had a great ride on Sunday, The Big-Su is still not out.

Well, we made it. I didn't realize that we met 'Alcan Rider' or I would have bought you lunch. It was a good day of riding. Set out from Anchorage, hit Glennallen, slipped through Thompson Pass into Valdez (one lane was clear) and then scooted past 11 moose and a couple herds of caribou to hit the hay in Delta. Gotta love that much riding light. Some of the pictures are at: https://www.facebook.com/CBNorthwest/photos_stream
