Haha yeah they pull hard for a piston port 250, especially without a true expansion chamber.... I would be scared to see what it would do with some porting and a true chamber....

Those are sweet! Haha Shocktower, got me on that one! I plumb forgot myself. I can sort of relate to you Grreatdog--I was out checking cattle one day on that 1977 CT 125 and went past my little motocross track. I thought, "I wonder if...":evil And just being the spontaneous kid I am, got a good long run at a 25 foot tabletop in 4th, and landed it perfectly :D :D I remember hearing a "clack" front and back when I came down though, as I suppose I am a touch big to be doing such on that bike at 6' 6" and 200 lbs!!! Stupidly enough... this is 100% true :D

Explore an alternative reality for playbikes...

My putters to supplement a street plated GasGas EC300... less expensive to maintain and operate than a current MX bike, and actually significantly improve riding skills.

Based on jse comments, got the 2002 Pro chassis for the quicker steering and lighter magnesium engine cases. The chassis was only made for 1-year and is a odd mix of parts. Currently weighs just over 145 lbs. wet.

Complete rebuild of engine top and bottom end. Installed S3 225cc kit, S3 Stars cylinder head with interchangeable compression insert (currently running high-compression insert), and GasGas UK flywheel weight.

Revalved (2-stage compression and rebound) and changed spring rate on Sachs rear shock. Installed shock upside-down with 4mm preload.

Installed Formula 'Factory' forks (adjustable compression, rebound, preload, and end-stroke) with GasGas anodized Ergal triple clamps. Installed ProTaper Hi bend SE handlebars with ProTaper Medium compound grips.

Completed restoration of 1995 JT35. Approximately 170 lbs. with a 327cc Big-bore motor: tons of torque, and will lug at idle, out climb most dirt bikes, and traverse a 6-foot vertical obstacle in the right hands.

This bike may have an interesting histor if built by Jon Stoodley AKA jse for Steve Darrow for the World Championship. Had cylinder head mods, and Keihin PWK carburetor.

One of the inmates, hmb, had a 234 lbs. CRF150F which she had difficulty picking up if dropped on a nasty single track or gnarly terrain.

We introduced her to Trials, and found her a 150 lbs. Sherco ST2.0 (2-stroke) from another inmate that was much less expensive than her CRF150F. http://advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=21173506&postcount=16 Once she realized the huge advances in performance and how much her riding skills improved; I don't think she's ever going back to the 'play bikes' offered to the mainstream.

There may be solutions for you, like this or this.

Trials bikes are awesome playbikes, unless of course you feel the speed. Even then, 5th or 6th gear can get you moving along.

This will be my Nice's upgrade from the Z50.

I am curious what I should fill the oil tank with these days? I was planning on just using that new synth stuff they sell at the hardware store for yard tools?

Cool bike! I still have a 1980 YZ 50, was my son's first bike, he's 22 years old now, over 6 ft. tall. For your oil tank, refer to the premix thread, there are specific oils made for injection. Use an oil made for injection, such as the Yamalube 2-S, not the 2-R (again, see premix thread). Buy it from a Yamaha dealer, not Home Repo.
