Friend of mine put us into the ditch, once,as he swerved to avoid...a squirrel.

MzOz,wife, swears she doesn't ever swerve for small animals- so she must only do it when I'm in the car because everything-chipmunk,bird,etc gets a swerve.

I've found that most critters do escape unharmed whenever I maintain my line, and I've herded more than a few deer, dogs and cattle off the road purposefully.

    Heal up, OP!

The rule that I learned from a buddy is if it’s small enough to eat in one sitting it’s small enough to hit. If leftovers would have been involved it’s probably gonna hurt

You're gonna be even more handsome now, big guy :)

Notice the guy at the edge of the frame in the first picture? He's looking at her boobs, and ignoring you!

Thanks for spreading the ATGATT word. Heal up. When I first started riding, a rabbit bolted in front of me when I was cruising one of my favourite backroads. Being new, I guess I froze up and carried on straight for him. Felt like a little bump in the road. I pulled over, adrenaline rushing to assess the damage. Walking back down the road, found the offending rabbit cut clean in half, myself and the bike emerge unscathed. I remember that now, and will size up my opponent based on that experience.

i remember in the MSF class we were advised to give it a little throttle if a hit with a small animal was inevitable. lighten up that front wheel and roll right over.

get out of the road you furry bastards!

Saw this idiot leaving the local HD dealer today after he took off his shirt and flip flops to ride away.

Sorry to hear, hope you heal soon.
I had an off last May with ribcage injury. It not fun.

You story went from 'small animal appearing from left' to 'I hit the ditch'. Seems some detail is missing.

Yes . ATGATT! The rule the thumb I use is if I think I can eat it in one sitting, I do not swerve.

Thanks to all of you for the prayers and kind words. Recovery over the last three weeks is going well.

I am up and around now, even driving and running errands. The wife is happy as I am washing clothes, dishes....and helping more around the house. I have a goal to be riding the 950 or the 1200GS by the 4th of July. I've already started rehab, working on my strength and flexibility.

I'm recovered enough to twist a wrench and tear down the 950 and do some sanding. Since I can't ride, I'll be painting a bike.
