2003 BMW 1150GS with custom sidecar • Rad Lazar

This is our sidecar rig "Lucky Explorer" for our round the world trip. The sidecar is custom built to my specifications for my co-pilot "Doc" Holliday. Doc is a certified Therapy Dog so we will be visiting hospitals, nursing homes and kid's homes as we travel and spreading the word about the benefits of Therapy Dogs.

The canopy and side windows help protect Doc from the weather, yet are totally removable. There are 2, two gallon Rotopax containers for water and 1, three gallon gas container. A custom built solar panel is mounted to the top box on the rear of the bike, able to charge cell phone, laptop, or anything else. We also have power outlets in the tankbag on the bike and inside the sidecar. There are 3 PIAA lights on the front, 2 halogen for night driving and 1 LED light that has a keychain remote control so I can turn it on from inside the tent. The sidecar has a 12 volt linear actuator mounted to the subframe, which can raise and lower the sidecar to adjust for off-camber trails and roads. There is a winch mounted which can be used to pull the rig forwards or rearwards in case we need it. Currently, a custom 2 wheel drive is being built, using a shaft driven from the rear differential of the bike, connected to CV joints and axles with a locking hub to drive the sidecar wheel if we need it when the going gets tough in mud or rough terrain. We love to do as much off-roading as possible. This unique rig has everything needed to make our trip safer, easier and it is well built by Boxer Metal of Chico, CA. See you at the Expo East !

Pandering for votes so you can win some obscure contest? Not sure how I feel about that.

In any event, I did go to the site and voted for the Bronco--he's owned it for 22 years, continually improving it, and uses it as his daily driver. Cool!

We won the contest !! Thanks for all your support and to those who voted.

We spent our $500 expo dollars on items we needed for our trip....and with $40 left over, bought 2 audiobook CD's from friend, author, world traveller Sam Manicom.
