WHAT:1st annual Dirtbags Dual Sport Camping Trip.

    WHEN: April 12th - 13th

    WHO
: All are welcome. We reserve the right to refuse you a map if you are a douchebag though. There are going to be a variety of bikes on this ride already, from a DR200 to an F800GS. Some bits will be technical and muddy but should be passable by most adv bikes.

WHERE: Route to be distributed on the day, but generally will be an all-dirt/gravel route from Scappoose, past Timber and down to the Salmonberry river where camping will commence.

    Saturday, April 12:
    * meet at The Roxy at 8:30am for grub, map distribution, etc.
    * roll from Roxy ~9:30, headed for Scappoose, meet up at JP West / Veterans Park for stragglers who didn't make breakfast
    * leave Scappoose at 10:30am
    * ride the route. Eat something somewhere when hungry
    * arrive at campsite in the afternoon. Setup camp.
    * dick around in the area. In the vicinity of the camping site are hill climbs, old RR tunnels, single track, the Salmonberry river, and fantastic views. See this highlight reel from the camping area.
    * eat/drink/sleep/make merry

    Sunday, April 13th
    * assess the damage and willingness to continue the beating
    * Sunday ride details as they develop. Options include:
    - Nicolai Mountain
    - ride to the coast and up the beach to the wreck of the Peter Iredale
    - south to Browns camp
    - just dick around ripping up and down logging roads
    - ride/hike to the massive trestle spans on the abandoned Tillamook RR
    * Finally, regroup at Cornelius Pass Road House ~6pm for war stories and wound licking

There will be no gasoline on the route once we leave Scappoose, so plan to have at least 100 miles worth of fuel.

WHY: The weekend is going to be beautiful. Partly cloudy and upper 60's. Night time camping temps will likely be in the 30's so bring appropriate bags/sacks/whatever. This is going to be a great ride.

I'm in but I have a question. Will there be mud? If there is then I might not wear my new leather jacket.

I can't possibly imagine mud on a DS ride. I'm sure your new leather will be shiny and clean come Sunday. :evil

Any general route for this ride? I mean, how much off-road, etc.

    Thanks!

I unfortunately have plans on Sunday. Is a Sat ride along with the group possible?

Saturday ride along is good. Camp site is roughly 90 minutes from Portland via major roads, so there is a bailout option if you are not down for camping.

Route will be as close to 100% offroad as possible. Since it is a means to an end however, much of it will be gravel secondary roads. The start of the route is reportedly a little uglier than normal due to the rains, but still passable for big bikes. There is one section just south of Timber where bigger bikes might choose to take a couple miles of super tight twisties instead of the proposed route.

Breakfast is open to douchery. If you don't get a map, take the hint :evil

Enjoy Beaverslide - it's fun down there. I've always wanted to camp down there, but other plans this week, plus I may not pass the Arbitrary Douchebag test.

Be sure to share some pictures of the debauchery.

FWIW - I heard on the news today that they are planning on rebuilding that rail line, and have already started on Western end moving inland and ultimately want to go all the way to Banks. Hope they have DEEP pockets. http://www.oregoncoastscenic.org/

I want to meet the people that have pockets that deep, and the lawyers squad to silence the greenies!
Of course if they do get it through, the can consider me a rider...whether they want riders or not. :lol3

Last time they rebuilt it, it got washed out even worse by another flood within a year. Better build it stronger!

Just to be safe, can we get some sort of clarificaion on the terms? My Parole Officer has called me a dirtbag often, but never a douchebag. On the other hand, the people I sell meth to have called me a douchebag, but its not like they're one to talk, am I right? -Perplexed_In_Portland

I live equal distance from downtown and Scappoose. (St Johns) Would anyone be up for an alternate (Scappoose) breakfast meet up? Is there a decent place in Scappoose for breakfast?

Three of us also live in St. Johns and one other from Salem is staying with us the night before so I think if the 5 of us meet in the morning and ride out together to Scappy it would work well. Maybe meet at Krueger market or somewhere close to the brige?
