Spoke to @Keegs today. Looks like we are basically from the same home town, played for the same lacrosse team but different years for the same coach, and we are going on basically the same journey.

We are meeting in San Diego on the 5th and heading south into Mexico together. Now to look for where to stop along the way!

    Getting excited to go!

I put together a web page where you can follow along with me on my journey from Portland to Argentina!

The page will let you follow along with my blog as well as track me via satellite! You can even ping me from the page and send me messages directly to my tracking device.

I am NOT a web designer, so try to deal with the mess. I think it should display ok now, but there are just things I don't know how to do [IMG]:)

Sounds like an epic journey that'll produce priceless tales.

From a fellow Oregonian, safe travels with tons of enjoyment. Oh, and I've high-sided at PIR too (also low-sided a couple times to cover both types of crashes...lol).

Thank you! My wrecks were out at Miller Motorsports Park, but I have been itching to go to some of the Moto Corsa Track Days. Maybe this trip will make me want a bullet bike again lol

Website looks good!! I was just gonna ask if you still wanted to borrow my DeLorme PLB, but I see you have a Garmin.
Is that GPS/nav only, or emergency locator too?

Here's the one I have. Like i was saying you can preset 3 text messages and press the message button on the right once, twice , or three times to send message 1, 2, or 3 to preset numbers. That part is totally stand-alone.
You can also BT to your phone and write ad-hoc text messages as well.

The inreach explorer does have maps and access to maps all over. Its basically the same thing you have but it has a screen with maps too. I decided to just spring for it and keep it 10 years, maybe more?

I really appreciate the offer still though!

Hey PDX, at first glance I was in the "pass the barfbag" camp but then I looked closer...then I read your post about the back story on the wrap. Very cool!
At a minimum, it will be a conversation starter.
I'll also be following along as a fellow 1090R owner doing a similar trip next year, with similar insane timelines.
Have a great day and have some fun!

As an artist, I realized a long time ago that art, vehicles, real estate, mountains, all look different to different people. Our eyes and emotions can be so different based on experiences etc that we have had. When I create works, I try to make them just look good or mean something to me. I guess with billions of people on the planet, there has to be at least 1 person that likes what I do, and that is usually enough to keep me happy doing it :)

I hope you are loving the 1090! As long as my fuel pump does well, I will be happy!

Si si claro. Vivi en el salvador por 2 anos, y he manejado por alla. Voy a andar con un poco de prisa, pero con mis ojos abiertos. Voy a disfrutar el viaje, solo un poco mas rapido que los otros ;)

I'm just over 13,000 km (8,000 miles) without any fueling issues. I'd bring a spare pump just in case though since it's really the only issue that I've heard. Plus if you bring one, the problem won't come up. Murphy's Law.

Welcome and thank you! I hope I deliver a decent adventure!

Lol isnt that always the case? I will call and see if they have one. I haven't looked to see how big they even are.

Also, I did an updated map for South America. Keep in mind that this isn't necessarily the exact route I will take, but it is the path of least resistance for the places I want to go to for sure. As I see what time I have available to me, I will most likely find ways off the path and explore a bit.

The fuel pump isn't particularly large, but its awkward. I'd maybe find a source and make sure someone who gives a damn has the pertinent details so it can be Fedex'd to you. There's usually some warning signs before the pump gives up completely - such as bogging under hard throttle and weird whining sounds on power up. If that starts happening then you need to get one shipped to you asap.
    Otherwise, ride on brotha man.

Oh boy, that sounds fun. I just took the bike in for the 620 mile break in service. They said that all was good, including the parts I installed without real instructions lol.

I will keep an eye out for that, but shipping anything down there may be a pain. I am sure I can do it though. I am one of the KTMTwins.com ambassadors, so I am sure I can get Eli to ship me something if needed. Some support there at least!

Sounds great! What area shall I watch for you in?

I just realized how close I will be riding to the Dakar Route. I will probably have to see if I can ride on any of the sections.

Any locals in for a ride?
