Man, that is pretty. I used to have one just like that, except the taillight housing was black, and the seat was slightly different. Still my favorite airhead.

My '83 80 G/S of which I am the second owner, it has done a four year around the world including a trans Africa trip from Cairo to Cape town with the first and another trans Africa trip in the opposite direction with me.
It has now done 170,000 miles.
Also my 91' 80 GS I have owned from new, it has also been around the world and has now done 160,000 miles.
Both are excellent bikes with different characters and strong points, if I had to choose one it would be the GS, but only just.

make sure you get a title!!! Long story short, my original frame was bent, bought another frame but now cannot get a title for it. I now am looking at buying another frame to make it legal in Ohio. I hate doing things three times over!

This Café looks really mean! Love your seat, and the tank looks pretty cool. I hear that even with clearcoat, a bare tank will rust. Did you take any special precautions?
I would love to see more detail shots. I have been thinking about a mirror like that one. Any photos showing the bars and grips?

    Thanks!

As of right now, the tank isn't clear coated. I just wipe it down with WD40 after everyride. Not quite as shiny as the day I stripped it, but there isn't any oxidation showing. Part of me really likes the look, but after cleaning everything else up, I think I'll eventually have it painted. Not sure on colors, but I'll definitely keep the same layout.

I tried to take a couple of pics to show off the bars. I apologize for the low light cellphone pics, but I'm leaving on a trip first thing in the morning and I'll forget if I don't do it now. I'm using woodcraft clip ons and the standard BMW controls. Mirror and bar end turn signals are from Dime City Cycles.

noticed that the headlamp was on a little crooked after i took this pic... fixed it already

Good shot of the jugs. Painting between the fins turned out even better than I thought it would

    Great looking bike!!

I have a bare tank on a CB750, I used an oil that is usually used for boats, it acts the same as paint. It's called Owatrol, not sure id it's sold in the USA.

I redo it about twice a year and it stays really nice!
