I'm planning a Pre-Approved IBA IBR SS1K ( > 1,000 miles in < 24 hours ) to the Minneapolis area, departing on Wednesday July 5th , to observe the Riders in the 2017 Iron Butt Rally roll-in at the end of the ride after spending 11 days riding around the country. The IBR ends Friday July 7th at 10:00 am.

Here is the link to the ride :

Hit your Reload / Refresh button to see the latest additions / changes.

There are ( EDIT ) now
10 departure locations. If you would like to start at a location closer to your home, email me and I will work with you to accomplish that, if possible.

The ride should be posted soon on the IBA Event Calendar.

If you would like more information on the IBA , goto : Iron Butt Association

And if you would like more information about the IBR, goto : Iron Butt Rally

I also just added a Garmin POI File and a Comma Delimited File for the ride at the ride webpage.

I noticed a few days ago that Tyre to Travel would load the GPX file into my GPS, but I couldn't find it using the GPS controls, but when I loaded the Garmin POI File using Tyre to Travel , all the waypoints were in the "Extra's" location.

The Comma Delimited File can be inputted into a spreadsheet to see the GPS coordinates if you want to enter the coordinates manually into your GPS.

As stated above, there are now 10 departure locations. I got an email from a Rider that wanted to start in the Minneapolis / St. Paul area.

So now the MSP area is also a starting location. Riders starting in Lakeville, south of MSP will meet the balance of the Riders in Eldridge for lunch. We might have a good turnout for this ride.

And I heard from Rich Henrion that Mike K. recently told him that he is looking forward to meeting the Riders in Minneapolis when he presents the certs Thursday afternoon.

I am planning on doing the ride...I work nights until 630am on July 5th though. If anyone is interested in meeting up later in the morning/ early afternoon from the Grand Rapids, Michigan or Chicago area let me know. Feel free to post here or private message me your phone number or email. I ride a Goldwing and have about a 180-200 mile range.

Ps:I run Cyclops Extreme Range LED lights that are very effective at night (since I will be riding through the night).

I'm in. Leaving from GR. Dropped check in the mail today. I rode IBAJIM's MIO SS1K last year and it was a blast, even though it rained so much that I had to pour the water out of my boots at one of the gas stops. I ride a grey BMW F800ST.

OP - great idea. I can't make it - but good on you for taking the initiative for many fellow riders!

I'm going to try this, been fascinated with the IBR and since it's in Mpls this year it's really peaking my interest. I have many hundreds of thousands of miles on cycles, but not in thousand mile increments! I ride an 05 Ultra. Looking forward to meeting some of the other folks as my ride will start in Lakeville MN.

FYI : I have a reservation Thursday night at the Red Roof Inn in Plymouth, on the west side of Minneapolis. I figure I will probably be within not more than 15 -20 minutes of the IBR Guest Hotel. And at 4;30 am , there just won't be that much traffic on the roads.

I booked a campsite at Camp Faribo, just a couple of miles from the Grand Stay. They will let me check in at whatever hour we get done with the ride on Thursday, and only charge for one night. I am going to be camping on the return trip anyway, so I figured I might as well camp with my already packed gear.

I have work until 0630 am. I will be leaving the Grand Rapids, MI area around 1 or 2pm on the 5th. I am planning on doing a SS1K to the finish but will certify my own ride through the IBA's normal process (I have family in St Paul and am not planning to be at the 5pm ceremony on the 6th anyway). If anyone wants to start later in the day let me know by sending a private message and we can meet up. See all of you others at the finish!

    Ride Results :

19 Riders started & finished this SS1K , including 5 Riders that earned their IBA number on this ride. And we had two Can-AM Spyders on the ride.

About a dozen of the Riders had lunch in Faribault Thursday. Mike Kneebone handed out the certs Thursday afternoon.

It looked to me like everyone enjoyed the lunch, getting to know each other and watching the IBR Riders roll in early Friday morning.
