Got it - it can go either way where it's stellar with no dust and great traction or a long effing muddy day....

with that in mind is looking like a 15 tooth counter sprocket instead of 13 tooth for xr650l

The forcast seems to be getting better. I looked at the 10 day forcast for Prescott on Weather Channel and it showed 40% Friday, 50% Saturday and 60% for Sunday. I am going to hold off on making a choice and see if it continues to improve. I don't really want to pack up the truck for a camp if it is going to be wet and muddy. I have ridden WV when muddy and it was no fun.

I did get out today and did a 340 mile loop on the pavement today. Our 44th anniversary and we took the day and rode down 93 to the Congress turnoff, rode up to Yarnell and then to Prescott. I forgot how much fun that stretch of highway is. From Prescott, to Ashfork, Selligman and Kingman via 66. It was a good ride but we are both a bit pooped out. I would like to get out and see how I do on some dirt tomorrow. Mo may need to come scrape me off the rocks.

Posting here access to a map and a gpx track file for Brian's Fr7 to Yavapai Ranch Big Loop which, with the approval of the appropriate weather gods, should come off this next Saturday.

You can find a Furkot map of the entire ride here: https://trips.furkot.com/ts/9QdygW . This map is pan-able and zoom-able and has an approximate time line atached.

The gpx file for the entire loop can downloaded by clicking on the icon below.

    A few notes:
    • I've included a ride up to the top of Bill Williams Mtn - this is an option that'll add at least an hour to the ride.
    • I've drawn in an off-road option to the RR tunnel from and back to the Welch Rd exit off I40. I'm hoping 2 SPOT will be able take us there. I don't know the real location so this is just a made-up planning route that I assume will take a half-hour for the round trip. Reality is sure to be different.
    • I've shown the most direct route from Seligman to the Welch Rd exit ... you may want to ride a different route.
    • Playing around with speeds a little, allowing some time for lunch and regrouping/breaks, it looks like the full ride needs about 7 hours of riding and a reasonable time projection gets us back the the staging area about 5:00 or so. That may be a good guess or maybe not but it's gonna be a long day no matter how ya cut it -- so we'd best not dawdle.

IMHO it needs to be clear that it's kickstands up at 8am not arrive at 8am

And after Thursday's rains, I'm fairly confident dust will be minimal ;)

looks like a great ride. I was at the tunnel not too long ago. Johnson Tunnel is at 35°14'49.84"N 112°20'2.03"W. Get off on Welch Road Exit head to the north side of I-10. Cross the "parking area" going north. Get on old 66 head east. Take your first Forest Road to the left. You will cross a dry rocky wash. You will pass Johnson Crater at 35°14'21.57"N 112°21'47.83"W. About a quarter mile past the crater there will be a four way intersection. That is Welch Station take a right and head east. This will be the old rail bed that will take you to the tunnel at the above coordinates. I did it on my Tiger. There is a couple of cool dams in there a

Ok, looks like I'm a maybe at this point... The Honda still needs some work done tonight so if I'm not at the gas station at 8am in the morning I didn't get it finished. For those who do make it have fun - the route looks like a great ride!

Thanks Dirt wolf, CapeMan, 4play and 2 Spot for getting it mapped out!

This is one of the reasons were loosing places to ride.

I prefer to invite just folks I know to my house rather post my address in a public forum.

    Thanks

Its pretty easy to google around and find what is out there ( ). Putting it on a forum is not going to some how alert the forest service and the lefties. I'll bring a garbage bag and will carryout any small trash anyone wants to pick up. So we leave it better than before.

you have a point,, but you completely missed my objection.

its not about hiding something from the forest service they already know about,,, not worried about the lefties either, what i AM worried aboout is the rampant escalation of vandalism thats gone hand in hand with the growth of internet forums and other easy accesses to informtion by folks who may not alwys have good intentions.

I agree, hate vandals and litter bugs, leave it better than you found it. What do you think is the oldest date someone has tagged in that tunnel?
