What do you have in mind?
I was wanting to hit up the trails around Groom Creek for a few hours Sunday morning. I have some loops that are about 20-30 miles depending on my level of ambition. Most of it is ATV trails.
I'll be passing through Flagstaff this week and plan to ride a little. It will probably be grabbing a quick ride when time permits. I was thinking of hitting Fort Valley and perhaps riding down to Sycamore Point. I know there have been daily T-Storms passing through... how are trails in those two areas? Do they hold-up with some moisture or become impassable? Thanks for any tips.
Some of the unimproved roads get greasy and can be a handful on a big bike. If you're on a small then no worries,
They have tapered off and they dry out very quick, but when wet are very greasy. If you ride out of Flagstaff try FR 151 and you can even go all the way around the mountain on FR 148 and come out on 89 near Sunset Crater. A dead end but scenic ride off of 148 is to Lockett Meadow ride. Just be careful, it is one lane two track and gets a lot of vehicle traffic The loop around Sunset Crater Wupatki is a great ride but go north on 89 past Sunset to the north end of the loop. If you enter through Sunset the State will charge you, but no fee station on the north end. Let me know what day you wlll be around and I can show you some areas on the map. Would go with you but my bike is in the shop getting the leaking seals fixed.
The pic of the bike down is where pulled over and hit a darker patch in some shade, it was like grease.
I would highly recommend getting the front fender risers for your AT... trust me ..it don't take much mud up front to bring down these beasts ...
Anybody up for some backcountry dirt Thurs/Fri (possibly weekend but tbd). Preferably something somewhat close to Sedona/Perkinsville or up on the rim? GC? Not even sure what my schedule is but if something good is going on I might be able to adjust. Beuller?? (I'll be on a smaller bike but not looking for anything terribly technical, unless I'm coerced. :) )
Redrock88, would be fun but I'll be working the Prescott Rally this weekend. You'll want to be aware that part of Perkinsville Road from Chino to Drake and up to Jerome will be closed periodically Friday afternoon/evening and most of the day Saturday.
What are you riding?
Reidy008 >>>> KTM 200 xcw.
AlwaysSearching >>>> I'd be game for getting up Casner and tooling around, maybe make a loop out of it. Haven't tried it on moto since the very first time I ever rode (hilarious bf!). Done it on MTB a few times. Note, I'm not the biggest/strongest rider in terms of picking up crashed big bikes but I do have solid experience picking up my lil ktm napping on rocks (and snapping pics of such) :)
Jeeper0505 >>>> Hadn't heard of the rally; looked it up and will definitely avoid.
Separately, coming down Schnebly today, front brakes not engaging fully, even after a few hacks. Tomorrow, will see if it's an easy fix.
No slab? I don't like it necessarily but tagged and street-legal. Can ride it when I need to.
Sorta all over the place, but generally the red rocks. Sending PM.
Riding Turkey Creek & Desoto mine Saturday if anyone's interested
