The ads are based on your search history, I keep getting a Suzuki motorcycles ad.

Well, considering it was an erased phone with no search history....?
all my caches get cleared, privacy settings maxed, when I restored phone every account was sending up alarms about a strange device...

not to mention I searched for nothing related to any of those ads.

Your "search history" may be accumulating from multiple sources and is used to find things that "might" be of interest - it possibly shows that you appear to be a lonely nerd who needs company? ;)

Thanks for the screenshot, that's helpful for us to sort out these ads, shouldn't be any dating ads. we're on it.

Got my first ad today. Put me on the list of people that would be happy to pay an annual subscription to be ad-free please.

Today I got a new phone. So naturally i Have to log in new to all my site. ADV gave me some fits due to pop up ad. Took a few hits to get past them just to log in.
I don't know how to do screenshots with this phone yet. Too many other things on my list.

    Asking for help here-
Point me in the right direction, please.
In an effort to go without Tapatalk I'm in need of using my Smugmug account more for pics.
Other forums aren't as friendly to mobile as ADV.
At this time I can upload to SM with the App and then have to go to the web on my computer to be able to share to forums.
Is there something I'm missing to be able to get to the BBcode box in the App?

That's not an ADV advert... it's floating above the ADV page, where the ads that ADV is testing are embedded in the page - see what BlueMule showed a few posts back.

Adventure rider has been a great experience and resource.

The intrusion of advertisement is being accepted across the board from TV, radio and the internet by most everyone but I find it awfull. Don't understand that we as a people dont resist. Why? The added noise of both audio and visual dulls the natural world.

Ok we watch TV and listen to the Radio but... The relativly resent invasion of this so called advertisement and the relative ease at which we are taking it to me is alarming.

Anyway, looks like everyday folk are accepting it with out even knowing what is going on. Sorry to see Advrider going down too and just for a few bucks.

Baldy has been supporting the forum essentially out of his own pocket for years. He has grown tired of the burden. Don't like ads? Maybe you could assume the load. Or ask for your money back. And kwitcherbitchen.

MikeyT, come on you know this is not good!

I am a long time user of Smugmug and have done that to support Advrider.

Advertisement is OK to a point. My point is todays advertisers are ruining sites like these and sorry to see advertisers turn us into whores and robots.

Well then only reasonable alternative is to just opt out, as a sign of your willingness to resist.

    Door-------> hitya

    by the way, it's "recent".

edit: for the record, do I get to choose whether I'm a whore or a robot? Is there a difference in the salary/benefits package? I'm leaning toward robot, but "whore" does have its strong points...

ADV is not going down... the new site owner has some ideas about generating income, and I don;t think anyone knows what the specific end result will be. I say give it time, give him a chance, and know that Baldy is still involved. I've got a feeling that it's going to work out fine, without becoming significantly different from the site tens of thousands of us have come to love.

Honesty is appreciated! Not sure if you saw in some of the previous posts but we're going to offer an option to contribute a few bucks for an ad free experience, it'll also come with some other perks. We're actively working on that stay tuned in a month or so. Free t-shirt too :).

As you can see you're currently not seeing ads at all so we're trying to be thoughtful about how we roll this out. I guarantee your average google search will have a lot more ads then any page on here will.

So the good news is that you'll have the option to contribute and see no ads, don't contribute and see a few ads (not as many as non-users) and option c... is install an ad-blocker, we won't stop you :)
