About to book ferry tickets from the UK to Bilbao for the last week of May. The plan is, between now and then, to obtain a good loop through the mountains to do off-road over 6 days.

Just wondering.....will late May be ok for weather or still snow up high?

And the ferry sails at midday and arrives the next day at 1pm......I’m 3hrs ride from the port in the UK.....I figure if I’m in Bilbao at 1pm I can get a few hours in that day and be on good fun tracks the following day?

So I leave the UK Wed morning, ferry that day......Bilbao Thu 1pm......Friday morning I’m off road having fun......the following Thu I sail from Bilbao at 1pm so a good weeks riding? Time enough for a good chunk of riding?

Most of this I can plan over the next few months......just want to get tickets sorted - all sound ok?

Or.....sudden thought.....is it best to head West to the Picos? Ferry to Santander.

I have no idea about what the answers to your questions might be, but I hope that you do a ride report of your adventure. That sounds like something I should have on my bucket list.

So is it easy enough to divert around closed roads when off road? Or best to go 1st week June instead?

    There's no guarantees - it's weather.
It could be absolutely brilliant, clear skies, warm enough for Brits, a riot of emerging flowers etc etc, or not.
Being nearer the Atlantic, there is slightly more chance of rain than the Alps, but you're on a bike and and relocate at will.

Check out over the winter, see how much snow they get.
Nearer the time, use the web cams (lots more than the one I posted) to see how melting is going. There are also www's which list the passes which are currently open.

My guess (as good as anyone's) is that lateMay/early June will be fine.

The weather here is not too predictable. But late may you'll be fine snow wise. The rain is another history, you could have a nice spring week with plenty of sun or a nice rainy week, who knows... I can't help you with offroad routes, but wikiloc has a lot of them: https://es.wikiloc.com/

    Hi Mark .
Same answer for the weather . But it might rainy on south ( Spain) and clear on north( France ) ; or reverse more often .
It depends if you ride tracks or roads . The first might be muddy hell sometimes. One important thing on off-raod : it might be closed sometimes , by periods or local events ; if you are not sure , ask or divert ... Important for the community . The other riders might help in case ....
    if you find some
    Nice place anyway .
