My buddy Dan and I have been trying to get to the top of Mauna Loa for a while now. Weather and time has been against us, but with me moving soon, today is the day. I'll try to update on the fly, not sure about internet connection on mountain but we'll see! Wish us luck!

    On the way up.

So it looks like the updates I thought I was posting weren't going through after all. Some ride report "starting out-yep, done" :rofl

So here are the pictures of the actual way up!

    Maun Loa, the target.

Me, yes my pants are too short and I am wearing hiking boots, because we will have to hike quite a ways, and I'm on a 250, it can't hurt me right? :eek1

Daniel, the brave man that let me ride his 250 through the biggest rock garden on earth!

Where the fun begins! Also, not sure how this worked. It says 6 miles to the summit, and I had 30 on the odo by the time we got up there.

Here is the easy beginning of the trail.

It was a great day, and a great send-off before I move back to California next week. Thanks Dan for the use of your bike, and the great company, we finally made it!!:freaky

Hey just figured you guys would laugh to know that I took my 950 Adventure up those same roads on our first attempt to reach the top. We got stopped by a gate that time. Couldn't drag the gigantic bike under it, lol. Contrary to my deeply held belief system there is a time and place for small bikes! The pictures don't really show it, but that rock/gravel/sand mix up there is DEEP, and many of the climbs are incredibly steep with little to no traction because of the all the little (and big) rocks rolling around on you. I did the trails on the 950, but it was much more enjoyable on the 250. Here is a picture to prove I won that wrestling match, lol.

Yeah it's a bit weird but as lifeless as it is, it's really kinda cool.
