Just came back from the dealer shopping for new plugs for my 990R, the plugs that came out of my bike were Ngk LKAR8B19 , but the KTM dealer had none in stock and had never sold any of that model, So he sold me a pair of LKAR8AI-9 which he looked up in the NGK catalogue as being the replacement.
So I get home and find the plug to be the same length but having the tip on top of the stem, where as the ones I took out don't have a tip on top just the threaded stem. Tried to fit the new ones in the stick coils but they would not fit.So I tried unscrewing the tip and ended up breaking the plug, looks like this particular plug has the tip as part of the stem.
So the question is , Does the 990R take its own size of plug different from the rest of the Adventurers?

I do know that 09 onwards has different plugs from 07/08. Even the socket is different..

Well, you found the difference between the 'A' and the 'B' in the top cap. They don't interchange.

Just found it odd that as a KTM dealer who has sold 950&990 Adventurers including the R and serviced them that they have never sold that plug or stocked it.:lol3

You NEED the right plug. You also need the right plug wrench. You can get both from CJ designs. Screw the dealer; they put the older plug in my 2011 990R, ran like crap. You can do both plugs yourself. The front one is hard to get but it can be done without removing anything.

Yes I have the CJDESIGNS designs wrench and I have serviced the bike myself.
