Questions about bringing a Yamaha CT1 back to life

    so i picked up this CT1 for $100. it's got everything except street legalizing stuff. hasn't run in years. the counter sprocket looks fudged so i'm thinking that's when they put it away. i just want the bike to run nice and reliably as a light trail bike.

    the two big things are:

    -is it necessary/worth it to open up the engine? it turns over without protest. there was a little water and a little oil in the case. i don't know much about two strokes so i don't know how the valving works and if it needs attention as a matter of course.

    -should i scrap the auto oiling system and just mix the fuel? this sounds a lot easier to me and more reliable...

    other things:

    -is it worth it to replace the ignition system with a solid state system?

    -is it worth it to mess with the suspension or will it suck no matter what? :lol3

    Ok on the oil injection system leave it on how many miles and we need pic's how bad is it, pay as you want to play with the suspension

    one plug is just a back up incase the one your running on fowls you just swap the plug wire over.... have you checked the point gap ?? the timing ? compression ?
    its a two stroke there aint no valves just a couple of ports in the cylinder.

    compression... yes, one of the few really important tools i don't own... good idea tho, i'll borrow one. or maybe i'll just buy one and be done with it.

    that's funny about the spark plugs! it's like they threw their hands up and said, we can't fix this, here's a workaround. i wonder if you put on a modern ignition system if you could fire them both off for better combustion like on my DR.

    There is no modern ignition system that will fit, just the magneto you have.

    Make sure you use the correct puller to remove the flywheel, and yes the puller threads are left hand.

    If your lucky, all you will need to do is spray some contact cleaner to remove the crud on the points and coils.

    If you decide to reset the timing, you might want to get a dial indicator (the head will need to be removed). You might get lucky and the timing tab will still be there attached to one of the coils (there is a scribed line inside one of the cut outs of the magneto face.
