Not sure what to say now. I haven't been on ADVrider in a while and ... I didn't know.
He was my friend, by neighbor, my pub buddy. What? I don't understand.
We were supposed to meet up in Europe this summer, but that fell through in the last minute when he decided to go north to Scandinavia vs south to the Alps; true free spirit thing. After that he was always either in Moab or other places, so we hadn't hung out for a while.
    I don't understand ...

80a7d0148be802b.jpg I've been off line for a few weeks and this has shocked me into sorrow.
It's been over 10 years since I met Mark here in Utah at a Neduro clinic in our west desert.
He impressed me and I stayed in touch, often threatening to join him on the Fall Colors Ride.
Well, I got that opportunity last year, 2016 and it was obvious that he was the Godfather of that ride. What a great time.
I'm really pleased I got to accomplish that ride and meet a whole new group of Adventurers through Mark.
I'll be back to edit this post with a photo or two which I know I can find. I'm just a bit more than shook up right now.
Ride on brother and keep the rubber side down.

Just now saw this. So sad. Tears & shock. Riding was one thing, riding with Mark was truly something special, nothing but smiles. I will miss you, friend.

The connection was as authentic and real as it gets. He will be missed.

Perhaps the meaning to gather from his passing is to make life itself more meaningful. The time is always now.

Does anyone have information on a Colorado memorial service?

There is talk of some kind of memorial in the spring. It's also been suggested to do a fall colors memorial tour.

I'm in touch with his ex. I just learned that before Mark left, he moved all of his things out of the rental house, which had just been sold. It's obvious that he put his plan in motion months ago.

FYI, it sounds like his 990 found a home with a friend in Estes Park. I'll be delivering the keys and title this week.

I'm subscribed to this thread so please post any memorials here, I'd like to attend if I can. I'm still mourning this loss, it wasn't anticipated.
I'm also enjoying the photos, keep 'em coming, what a great guy.

Like so many others here, I am just shocked to hear this. The words "Fucking Sucks!" comes to mind. He didn't know it but I really admired him and looked up to him, even though we had only met a few times, his reputation as a human being and a rider preceded him.
    I hope he went easy.

A memorial fall colors tour has been suggested. I would be willing to take on the role of "non-organizer". Plan on ~mid September. I'm thinking of making it a hot springs tour, similar to the one Mark couldn't make this fall due to backordered bike parts.

Maybe we could piggyback Westfest '18 which is in Ouray. It's looking like it's going to be Sept 13-16.

Sounds great! I was thinking of a night or two in Ouray anyway. Could hit a couple of other hot springs on a day trip from there.

What beautiful pictures from the 2015 FCT. That was possibly one of the best rides of my life.

I've got those panniers in my car today to drop off with title and keys to the new owner. Ill mention the memorial ride to him.

It's getting a little easier every week, but something still gets in my eye whenever I think about this. I still can't bear to reread the farewell note I got with the bike title, but also can't bear to get rid of it.

From May of 2014, on Osprey's Altesaur ride. I remember this stop as Mark pointed out the wood structures in the top right portion of the image and proceeded to talk about the mining company, the owner, when they were installed and what they were trying to accomplish; a brief history of the mining company, it's rise and fall. I remember thinking, who is this guy?! He's a walking Coloradowikipedia.

It was stuff like this that made him simply a really neat guy.

I had sent this image to Mark back in September asking him to remind me where it was, as ODC and I were going to do a ride, we were thinking about heading to Utah and couldnt remember where it was.

In his last pm to me, he told me it was YF11...

    Hey Mike,
I'd love to have that photo of Mark, Cindy and me.
    Thank you.

RE Fall Color Tour, I was thinking of doing things a bit differently. Wondering how peeps would feel about setting up a base camp and doing day rides? Perhaps KOA in Gunnison with day rides in different directions? Jeff, we could also setup "base camp" in Ouray and do day rides from that location. I'm willing to organize this, but I have several other rides and commitments. Using a base camp would simplify things...

Oops. Just saw the post about West Fest in Ouray...

I also have saved some of Mark's original FCT GPS tracks. We could totally recreate his original route... We'll see how this plays out.

My preference would be to do it like Mark did his tours. We ride until we get tired of following the leader. North to South. Hot springs are a bonus. I'm not crazy about crashing into a massive ADV rally like West Fest.
