Anyone give me any info regarding the fabled transmission failures of the 95 GS's? Oddly enough I've got about 7500 original miles on mine and I'm kinda freakin' about the possibility of a surprise lockup some where some place, sometime..........:bluduh

I have a 95 GS. I bought used 2.5 years ago with 19K on it. At 24 K I had a the trainsmission problem. Their was a problem with the bearings in the transmission in the 95, which can be repaired with the Quite Bearing Kit. Mine started clicking like my drive shaft was hitting something. I have talked to a lot of 95 owners with over 100K who have never had a problem with theirs. Be sure you add the Hard Parts are you will break it.

Just replaced mine on my 95 GS. Bought an M94 trans from Beemerboneyard.com that had been rebuilt/upgraded by Bruno's Machine Shop up in Ontario. Shifts like a dream now.
Mine started the "jumping thing" in 5th gear at about 40K miles. Put up with it till 47K miles when it began to do the "jumping thing" more frequently than I wanted to put up with and I was planning on a long trip.
Tom Cutter at Rubber Chicken Racing is another guru for rebuilding these transmisssions.
Hope that adds to your knowledge base.

A good used trans from an RT or other R1100 will also work. My 96 wears the M97 trans from a 99RT. There's a few salvage yards that specialized in BMW parts.
