Hi Doc, Glad to hear the skidplates are working well for you. Sounds like they will get put to the test. I've recieved a few photos in the past couple years where I got to see them take some nasty hits. Let me know how things go long term. Thanks Ernie

Will do. One thing I've noticed is that the plate does not mount to the bottom front attachement points of the motor case. Looks like you could thread a bolt thru it.

I'm assuming that was done on purpose as a solid mount can damage the engine case?

Hi Doc, The first time I got to see a early 2005 R1200GS I thought that would be a great spot for the front mount. They did use that though hole for the front mount for the HP2 but I'm told that was changed back to the same style as the standard GS. Work with what they give you to work with I guess. 2HE

Apparently not so. My 2007 has that front mount.

    Ernie,

I am interested in getting your engine skid plate for my GS1200 Adventure. But I see that BMW has done a 3rd sump re-design* on the GS1200. The latest being in mid March 2007. Does your engine skid plate fit this latest change?

    Thanks,
    Manxman

Hi Guys, Just got back from the BMW national. Met a large group of the ADV guys there and had a great time. Thanks to everyone that came by my vending booth for a purchase or just to say Hi. One of the last things I did on saturday was install three skidplate setups. Two were on new R1200GS adventures and one on a standard model. I assume all of them were darn close to new because they were very clean. No problems with the installations and far as I could tell no changes that affected the installations. I'd love to catch the wisdom on any changes that may have taken place. Any information that can be sent my way would be appreciated. Thanks Ernie

Hi Baggr99, Hope you had a good trip back. I sure do enjoy selling at the rally's more than over the internet. Much more fun to meet the riders in person. We had a great time. Met a bunch more of the ADV guys. Got to see lots of nice bikes. I'll have some pictures to post when I can find some time.

As for a KTM 950 skidplate. I'd love to take a crack at it but I've been burning the candle at both ends and I'd need to borrow a bike to make a model from. Sure would be great to have a surplus amount of free time. I'm busy this week putting a new gas tank in my 335,000 Jeep CJ5. As luck would have it I pulled the tank and have decided to replace the rear frame cross member as well due to a large amount of rust. I'llstop at a friend place on my way home tomorrow to bend up a new piece in stainless steel.

Glad to hear you got your skidplate CorbonCat. Please post a picture if you would. Be sure to introduce yourself at falling leaf. 2HE

:clap Great! I'll post an e-pic when installed. You have probably heard from my riding buddy Jeff, by now. He sew the engine skidder, and had to have one!

    Ernie,

I'm considering a Skid Plate and Centerstand Plate for my 06 R1200 GS. I'm also considering installing a full Remus exhaust including the header which eliminates the crossover pipe, are they any issues with either of your plates and the header pipe from Remus? Also I'm thinking about getting it powder coated, would powder coating hold up any better than paint? Hey, maybe jet hot coated? I ride 95% city and slab.

Hi there, When I was at the BMW national a few weeks back I installed a couple of skidplates on Remus equiped bikes. I make the skidplates 1/2" wider to fit the pipes. I was vending right next door to the Remus truck. Great bunch of guys. They installed over twenty exhaust systems on thursday alone. Just be sure to let me know you have a remus equiped bike when you order. Thanks for your interest. 2HE

Hi Doc, I'm over at my parents house and just now got to watch the video you put together. The audio has been out on our PC at home. I got a guy coming over tomorrow night to do some other work on it as well. Nice job on the production and thanks for the plug. Thats a sweet bike you've put together. Glad to hear the skidplates are working well for you. Hope to get a chance to meet you in person some day. Take care. Ernie
