The headlight lens on my 08 R1200GSA is extremely cloudy/foggy (on the inside), reducing its effectiveness. From what I've read and in talking to my dealer, the lens itself, while available from various vendors, is not easily replaceable. Another one of those "What the hell were the BMW engineers thinking when they designed the damn thing" mysteries.

The above said, has anyone had any success in removing the headlight assembly and clearing the cloud/fog from the inside of the glass? Is it even possible to disassemble the unit in order to get to the inside of the glass? I'm trying to come up with solutions other than replacing the entire unit, to the tune of $450. Have been on the BBY site and currently nothing there.

    Thanks in advance.

Search around here. There is a thread where someone was able to separate the lens from the housing. Not easy though as I remember.

Mine does that once in a while, but usually dries out on its own. If you remove the back headlight bulb cover and the bulb, will it dry out and clear up on its own?

For $450 you're halfway to having crazy bright Clearwater lights where your OEM fog lights go, making the headlight totally unnecessary.

And sometimes it is not moisture it is a film. With the housing off and bulb out put a cotton ball with some alcohol on it and swish it around.
