I got recruited to ride a leg of this year's SCORE race. Headed down to pre run the week of the 10th. They have me slotted for RM 470-700 for my leg. Looking forward to seeing some of the MX1K crew down there.

    Cheers-

That should be an interesting section to ride. It's not a common route for the SCORE races so should equalize things as far as nobody being overly familiar with the course. Good luck!!!

    I haven't been down to Baja in 4 - 5 years...

    Bring me up to date...

Is the weatherman still up?, I see the bikes are off at 11pm the night before (there won't be any copter help)... Are the required GPS units up to speed?

    Looking forward to it

I would venture to guess COCOS corner will be a good place to shoot.. maybe too early and still dark for pros. Gps's are the choice of the team and are to keep them on the trail.. they are making use of SPOT trackers and stopped working with IRC .. cant say much on that .

If your talking about the Summit, going down the east side is the easy part, you would be surprised how fast the cars/trucks go down that. It's the going up the west side that can be hard for the slower classes. That could be a real pain for the bikes in the dark too, there are some BIG rocks on the steep climb.

No it's not the Summit. This downhill is much more difficult than going down the east side of the Summit. There was quite a bit of buzz from the 4-wheel guys on Race-Dezert about how difficult this section will be for them because it is so tight, and so long. If a 4-wheeler breaks on parts of this section, there's simply no way to get around the disabled vehicle. The 4-wheelers will not be hauling ass down this section.

On this route, going up the west side is the easy part! It's the east side past the crest that's a bitch, and in the dark for the bikes it may be quite dangerous.

Dammit! I hate missing the new stuff! I haven't even looked at the map of the course yet or even the Score web site lately. I'm just bummed I wont be there this year:cry.

KZ - From the looks of it, there's a lot of new course north of Catavina and east of El Rosario. And it looks to be pretty technical too. Roger has apparently come up with a bunch of new terrain not used in recent SCORE events.

That section is not new, Sal used it going south back in 03(?).

A top Trophy Truck driver friend of mine pre-ran from RM 385 to RM 650 yesterday (aka: the "New" section). The 265 miles took him 12 hours!! That's only a 22 mph average! Typically pre-running for a 55mph average race speed is done at a 35 to 40 mph average. This will be one tough race!!!

Yep, it looks to be a pretty technical race. Did he mention there being a lot of silt between RM 400 and 500? Apparently SCORE may be providing an option to the Class 11 and 7SX vehicles to take a take a short cut to avoid that and to not go over the time limit. Going to be quite an interesting race!

Just checking-in here. I'll be buzzing around the race area for the next week. I'm available to get-on with a chase crew, or simply do some riding with other like-minded folks.

I'm on a f800 with load and camping gear, so not looking to do any deep runs but I'd love to find someone to hang with who knows their way around.

Heading to Ensenda for Fri/Sat night.
