On November 13th at 9:30am I will be racing the Elsinore Grand Prix to raise awareness for Vasculitis and to help raise donations for the Vasculitis Foundation

Ok so a little background on my wife and my story on vasculitis and what has brought us here to ask for donations:

Last fall my wife got very sick after a few xrays her doctor said she had pneumonia. She took it ez for awhile but wasn't really getting better than she started coughing up blood and had uncontrollable nose bleeds so she went back to the doctors. After another set of xrays they found what was in her lungs had now become large lesions and she was admitted right away.

After a CT guided needle lung biopsy and countless test in the hospital for a week they diagnosed her with Wagners Granulomatosis. An auto immune condition where basically her own body was attacking it's own vascular system causing damage to her lungs and sinuses mainly. We where told untreated it has a 80% fatality rate in 2 years (sort of not true/ old information before they started treating it with chemo it was basically a death sentence but now is treatable and many people live a long life ). It currently is not curable but much like cancer is treatable with chemo therapy and high doses of steroids that can put it into remission. For some people it can go away for a life time for others it can be a life of constant chemo treatments. Of course after all the shock we decided to go ahead with treatment.

Well it has been a year now and she is doing well with signs of the disease going into full remission and has been cut way back on all her drugs. The Vasculitis Foundation as been very helpful for us to find others in the same boat as us and support groups. They also are very active in pursuing the research of the disease. And just very recently threw years of research a new drug has been approved by the FDA for treatment that does not have nearly as severe side effects as the current mode of treatment. There also a lot of research going on to find just where/what triggers it in the first place.

That is our story and we really want to help contribute to the foundation that has helped us and so many others with support and connections to much needed specialist.

If any of you are interested in making a donation to the foundation please do so directly to there site. ( on the main page in the upper right is the Donation button. you can donate with credit card on the site or print up the donation slip and mail it in with a check or include card info. )

If you donate online designating it to the Research Fund would be great [IMG]

we are short on time to get a vendor booth set-up at the event and all paper work involved for us to collect donations directly and get approval from the foundation. so direct donations to the foundation would be great [IMG]

if you donate and want to make the donation in her honor that would be good to. My wife's name is Nicole Shaffer

If you do make a donation please just send me your contact info via private message on this site or email me at raceforvasculitis@yahoo.com or shffrjeff@aol.com

We would like to send all donators something to recognize their contribution and also include their names on the bike on the side panels and fenders. :clap

    Thanks
    Jeff

all proceeds are going straight to the foundation. none will be used to pay for any of our expenses.

you can read all about vasculitis and its many forms as well at the on going research into the disease at

WOW what a great community we got here :clap

Nicole was pretty down today because she just got word that one of her friends from her online support group passed away. he was an older gentleman with a few health problems. We do not know the details yet but......

When I told her about all the great folks on this site making donations it really made her feel better. She said you guys are " So sweet" to be so willing to help out a foundation for a person/people you dont even know... It made her day. :thumb

    Thanks
    Jeff

And dont forget when you make a donation make it in honor of Nicole Shaffer (she is registered with the foundation)
It will help us next year when we request some backing from the foundation for next years grand prix to get a booth/banners etc etc to try to drum up more donations at the track.
