    Just an update.

    Douglas County and the NFS have closed the seasonal gates on Rampart Range Road. This happens every Dec. 1st as the county does not maintain the road in the winter. I know, we all wish they would leave it until Ma Nature closes it...but it's a scheduled event.

    Trails stay open all year (unless a "mud" season closure) so you can park at the far north lot off of CO 67, the Sprucewood Inn or other access points but you can't drive down the road. Once the gates are closed RRR is considered OHV eligible so unplated vehicles can legally use the road until next Spring.

    Does this effect the road all the way down to Garden of the Gods?

    You can still ride the road... and on the trails. The only thing that changes is that you can't DRIVE on the road because they shut the gates.

    Guys I wish I had an answer as I don't know where the gate is on the south end. If you are on a bike like Olas said, you can ride the road all the way, you just need to pop around the gate on the trail access. Trails stay open but the County does not plow the road in the winter. After years of the FS having to go in and extract people who tried to drive through, they just gate it now.

    Do you know if the Mt Herman Road gate is closed? If so, can you legally go around the gate also?

    All the gates that would allow full sized vehicles onto RRR *should* be closed including Dakan. All of them I *think* have access for OHV, and bikes but I'm pretty sure they are all 52" inch access. The area is open to OHV including the trails and during the winter the road as well.

    The key then, is to run the road when the ranger isn't on it.

    Just to clarify, were you on 2 wheels or 4 when he turned you around? I'd like to have the gf try out her new bike (plated) on RRR and maybe try an easy trail, but that would require it to be ok to ride RRR (2 wheels) like Rod and Olas state.

    I was on two.

    I was about two miles up the road when the ranger flagged me down and I did not get to see the gate closed/how easy it would be to ride around it. Maybe others can speak to that?

    The gate in Garden of the Gods is extremely easy to go around. A bike with panniers could skirt around it. The sign on the gate says Road Closed. It doesn’t say to what, as hikers and Mtn bikers use it. It is not an OHV route, and All motor users need to be plated. This is different than the other end, where an unplated bike can use the road. Up top there is another gate where FS 306 connects to RRR.
    This gate is harder to go around, the mountain bikers and hikers have made kinda a path to the west along the fence. Workers use the road all year to access the water and communication towers up by the old firing range. Just like the northern section, the idea is to keep vehicles out of the area to help preserve the terrain from getting torn up, and from users getting stuck. A motorbike on the road isn’t going to tear much up if anything. Get off the road, which is illegal, is another story.

    Here is the list of closure points.

    USFS Road 300 aka Rampart Range Road is closed at the following locations:
    @67, just south of the main parking lot
    @Jackson Creek Road (FSR 502)
    @Dakan Road (FSR 563)
    @FSR 327 in Rainbow Falls
    @rampart Reservoir
    @Garden of the Gods

    Accessing the road on two wheels or on ATV mostly applies to the north end, specifically the OHV area. As you found out, the FS may have other ideas on the south end of the roadway

    I'm not doubting what you're reporting. However, I rode down Dakan on Saturday. There's no gate or sign that says it's closed. I came from Rainbow Falls to Rampart Road. Then went North on Rampart. There was a closed gate on Rampart, but it had an opening that looked like it was for ATVs so I just went through and turned on Dakan and make it back to 105 with no gate or closure notices.

    I also rode down Mt Herman on Sunday. Got on Rampart from Woodland Park and then over to Mt Herman Rd. The gates at the top and bottom were open.

    Rampart looked like some kind of Denver highway at rush hour. People were up there cutting Christmas trees.
