Ive read about fitting the rc8 velocity stacks to the 990 adventure but wondered if anyone has tried with the 1190? I know the air box is different would they fit and if they did would it be worth it? Also just wondering if anyone has removed the secondary butterflies? Ive seen smaller ones for sale from motohologains under the section lc8 performance and wondered if they where worth getting?

To answer your questions, No, No and I don't know.

I bought a 1000cc V-Strom when they first came to the states in '03. They too had secondary throttle butterfly valves. I removed mine because they were used to limit hp in 5th and 6th gears. Removing them greatly improved throttle response in all gears as well as removing the electronic retarder in 5th and 6th gear. The only down side was when I would start my bike on cold mornings, I would have to either hold the throttle or set my throttle lock because my bike would stall. Once the engine was warm, there was no issue. Before you spend money, if you have a Saturday to kill, I'd pull the secondary butterflys out, reassemble your bike and ride it. If it feels ok, leave them out. If you run into an issue that bothers you, either put them back in or buy the smaller ones you found. But be sure to report back your results. If they are positive, I will follow suit. I just don't have all day to screw around with what is already a pretty sweet running bike.
