RD350 returning to the road!

    I was lost for words, but its just filler on an aerosol :)

    Today I primed the rearswingarm, few or many layers of primer, does it matter?

    I think that as long as you cover the whole surface to be painted would be enoght.. The primer is supposed to be a base for the other layers of paint to stick in, but I don't really know as I haven't painted anything like a bike frame before..

    If you want to, I can ask to some friends, but I think that your question will be answered in a little while by someone with experience on that right here.. If not I'll tell you what I can find out..

    I have a buddy who is very competent in everything mechanical, so he is going to do some minor repairs to the frame.

    Worn/ruined threads, worn centerstand axlethingies etc. :)

    LasseNC, nice build! Great to see someone resurrecting an RD, they are getting scarce these days. I'm an RD affectionado from way back, built quite a few. We used to win allot of MC drag races wit RDs back in the day :clap

    It's probably too late but match porting the piston holes to the intake port really helps the RD breathe better. Also the motor suffer's from too much squish in the heads, there's allot of potential hidden in the motor that's untapped. A common mod back in the day was install TD3 heads of the factory RR bike or a set of DG radial heads (unobtanium now :cry) A good head job, properly done :lol3 will make them pull much better off idle waking up the lowend. When you couple that with a larger reed cage (easy mod) using modern reeds the motor will rip, nice power wheelies :D Best part is that these mods when done correctly take zero away from the motor's longevity and add power throughout the RPM range unlike a port job. I really don't advocate porting the cylinders unless the person doing it really knows RDs, it's way to easy to ruin the powerband if it's done wrong and requires a different approach to what's commonly done on modern 2Ts.

    Here's the last one I built, I was shootin for a stockish retro style. I had to gear this one 2 teeth smaller in the back, couldn't get on it in the lower gears w/o liftin the wheel.

    Picked it up again, rattlecanned the frame myself. All electronics besides rearbrake switch hooked up. Everything worked first try :)

    Getting some homemade rearsets instead, which will be the last major hurdle for now :)

    We haven't seen that bike for a while..
    It's getting really nice! Just wanna see it with its pipes, chain and the other little accesories...
    And.. I also want to see a video of it running :deal

    Might get this thing started up tonight! :) Aiming for it. Need an air impact wrench to tighten the rotor, drill two holes for the ign. coil and then on with some exhausts :)

    I got it started up as I planned, twas' a fantastic feeling this being my first own rebuild :)

    Just arrived home from touring on my T500 in Tuscany and here is a picture to prove it.

    Laying in the sun priming the last parts and they also got a few layers of paint, which looks really good to me.

    After 8 months of waiting my GP wheels finally arrived, machined by a german, supposed to be bolt on, but yeah, not quite.

    First, the front wheel. The adapterplate is too big, should have been turned down. Can be seen here.

    Here is the rearwheel. There are no instructions with it, so it took a while for me to figure out, still something is off.

    Here is where my headache starts.

    These are the remaining parts. Now the spacer slots in perfectly on the chaincarrier side, but then its too far off to the right in the swingarm.

    The oblong holes in the swingarm are not the same sizes because the axle has different diameters. So I am using the right side chainadjuster on the left and am standing with the right one now. Any suggestions?

    The head of the rear axle bolt is supposed to be on the right. There should be another nut to hold the sprocket carrier on the left side.
    I will see if I can find a pic.

    While that is true for the original setup, it might not be correct for this modification :/

    I did, I made new spacers a few days ago :) Now the rearwheel is working, but I think I will be going with an entirely new frontend from the GPZ.
