Yeah, yeah, yeah - I know this has been hashed to death but I have a more specific question here...

My TKC is dead and time for another rear. BTW, I thought it was a good tire.

What is the biggest/fattest tire I can squeeze in? I am not running a chainguard so I should only be limited by the swingarm and my stock rim (I doubt I ride aggressively enough to make the rim size a factor, BTW I have rim locks if it matters).

I am looking for tire sizes together with a brand as manufacturer's seem to differ slightly in actual measurements sometimes.

A 50/50 tire like the TKC is preferrable.

    Thanks in advance :thumb

:nod - food for thought brutha :thumb

Well I ate the food, thought about it, and now I am spitting it out :puke1

I like big fat tires - maybe it is the redneck Texan in me :dunno More tire = more better in my book :nod 'sides, there is nothing better than a big 'ol fat rear knobby (think Flanny mobile :nod) :thumb

Personally I could care less Fabrizio Meoni himself rose from the dead and proclaimed that them itty bitty skinny bicycle road bike tires were the shiznit, I STILL wouldn't get 'em for my bike :nono

    Pass,

I'm running a 140/80 Maxxis 6006 on the back of my '03 Adventure. I like it alot. It comes within a couple of millimeters of the chain guard, so it's pretty damn wide. As an aside, I'd pass up the 6006 front...it's marginal, at best. :deal

Its the fattest, but it is DOT approved & wear wells, pirelli MT21. I get them for about $50, not bad.

I'll be running the MT 21 when I swap tires but if you want fat look into the Michelin Baja :thumb

What is the wear? Ridiculous fast? Size I can stuff in?

Good thoughts if they won't go to slicks in 500 miles :nod

    PASSMORE,
I have a set of metzeler sahara, that I was going to fit on my adventure for my trip, but it since its gone, I got them at a very good price form scuderia. I was thinking of selling them. the rear is a 180-40 18.

    Do you want them?

What he said. I figure to get 2K total out of mine... then it's Michelin Bajas, which I might get a wopping 1k out of, and by then there may be something new on the market.

You could always lace a 17" hoop on the back. :lol3

Passy, Another vote for the Maxxis. Running one now one the rear; hooks up in well in the dirt and is sticky on the street. In the wet it lets you know if it wants to break loose.

I keep moving toward a dirtier tire; next on the list is the TKC or the MT21 on the rear. Oh and maybe the TERRA-FLEX. :lol3
