Rear wheel stuck!!!

    Hi everyone, after a long gearbox overhaul I went to try out my bike. I felt the bike slowing quickly when i leave the throttle. A bit of better inspection and i found out that the brakes were sticking!!! So i changed all the oil and brake lines( one split while bleeding) and even the brake pads were changed. Yesterday while cleaning the bike on the centre stand i checked the rear wheel!!!! Still really hard to turn by hand and the bike is dead heavy when i try to move it!!
    Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Probably the piston is stuck in the brake caliper. Nothing to do but strip it down and clean it real good.

    Perhaps remove the rear caliper and rotate the wheel. Just to elimenate binding somewhere else in the drive train. Like a partly seized rear bearing perhaps?:eek1

    Undo the rear caliper (or push it with your foot so the pistons are retracted) and then turn the wheel and see how free it is.

    That way you'll be able to see if the problem is with the brakes or somewhere else in the drive train.

    That seems the most logical thing to do, will check that way and revert. I hope that it's not the caliper cause I have just cleaned them and changed the brake lines too, anyway i will have to test first

    If I were you I would hope it IS the caliper. It is much cheaper and easier to fix than the next most likely cause, the driveshaft U-joints.

    I need a donor driveshaft. we have a place here in O-lando that does every kind of driveshaft known to man in the auto/truck industry. they would love to see why they would not be able to do one of these.

    I have one..and internal clip servicable u joints..my thinking is broach inside of yokes flat to accept clips..

    Broaching? I might be inclined not to broach because an ear could bend. I would rather bore the yoke ear holes to size and machine the lock ring groove.

    You may have some rubber debris from the old brake lines that has gotten into the master cylinder or the caliper and is impeding the caliper piston from releasing pressure. You have some more work to do it would seem. Lots of compressed air and some cleaning solvent and you'll be fine.

    Could be,

    In that case, I would drain all fluid from the system. I heard that white spirit is good to clean the system. I never tried it though.
    I prefer to change the oil once a year :-)

    I think I may have overtightened the caliper
    Cause when I untightened it a bit the wheel has come loose, I will still take it to my mechanic to be sure, cause I am not happy to ride with doubts about the braking system!!! So next week I will probably have an answer and keep you posted!!! Thanks for all the help

    Without something being stuck in the caliper....there is no way you can "overtighten" it and make it drag..piston has to be stuck..

    You are correct to be concerned about your brakes.

    Brake calipers generally are not complex devices. Likely the most important things are;

    1- No leaks.
    2- No debris in the fluid.
    3- Brake pads and anti-rattle clips installed correctly.

    If you are comfortable with tools, I would remove and disassemble the caliper and make sure it is free of any debris. Also, make sure the slide pins are free, not corroded and are greased. Be careful when applying compressed air to the caliper. It can close with extreme force and damage/pinch a finger.

    Once you have the caliper back on, I would inspect the master cylinder for debris and proper operation.
