Anybody want to ride tomorrow? Be at the Shell on Freeway drive in Reidsville @ 1000. We'll ride to the hills somewhere for lunch, kick around on some back roads and be home in time to see the Cardinals upset the Steelers. :D

    60F and sunny tomorrow... :clap

I would love to join you some time. I had to ride to Charlotte yesterday and getting ready to head back home only to have to be in Smithfileld late afternoon.
I have a buddy in Wentworth that I meet up with to ride. Riedsville is a great place to base a ride from.

    How about a ride report.?

Saving my pictures for a 15" screen (600x500) used to fill the screen here but now it doesn't. I'm too lazy to download them again, so please bear with the smaller format. It was very bright as well, which made it hard to get good shots (excuses, excuses...).

After the viewing from the Squirrel Spur we caught Pilot View Dr. (608) and then jumped on the BRP to Orchard Gap. We hopped on 670 when we found a chance and followed it until it ended at Hwy. 58 just outside Hillsville. We went through town over to the I-77 interchange and stopped at the Countryside to sample their all you can eat buffet. Excellent home-style cooking for about $10.00 a head.

Decent atmosphere and plenty of seating.

They said the chicken pot pie was good, I only had two helpings so I really couldn't form an opinion. I'll probably have to go back again... :D

My first helping; there may have been a slice of cake toward the end as well... :norton

The restaurant shares a parking lot with a BP station so we topped up after we topped up, which would carry us through the rest of the day.

Next we headed north on 221 and hooked up with Indian Valley Rd. NW (662). This is one of my favorite roads, corners and scenery, corners and scenery.

If you look closely at the muffler on the Black Pearl you can see some mud stuck to it. It seems the dead grass just to the left was a little slipperier than I thought. :huh First time I ever felt totally helpless on a bike. No damage, no injuries, no problem. :1drink

    After the bike dropping session we continued up Indian Valley Rd. NW. The route number changes to 787 after a while. Then;
    White Rock Rd. NW (740),
    Posey Rd. NW,
    Ridgeview Rd. NW (730),
    8 south,
    And a detour into a small valley below Lovers Leap;
    Jacks Creek Rd. (615),
    Mill House Rd. (616),
Lone Ivy Rd. (613) and back onto 8 south.

Here's a couple of shots on Lone Ivy Rd. before it goes back out to Rt. 8.

From here we headed on back to Reidsville via 8 and 58.

The day was awesome, warm, sunny and pretty. We covered about 240 miles and had a great time. :clap

Hey man. great write up of the last one.. You have set a standard so looking for another excellent write up and 'photo essay' as well. Any more "offroad" riding with the "Black Pearl"?

Here, met up with "Drummer" and we both only had about 2 hrs.. so headed up to Hurdle Mills, Roxboro, Semora, VIR, Milton, Yanceyville, down by the lake, then Hightowers and back to Hillsborough.

But also.. give us some HD insight and protocol. On 62 between Milton and Yanceyville came up behind an HD group, maybe 10 riders staggered out with lead and rear riders stationed. They were riding about 5 mph under the limit. what is the best thing to do there?

We followed them into Yanceyville and realized they were going to head down by Farmer Lake as well as we just went and got gas.

Last time NC Stephen and I rode, we hit the BRP. Came across a road hazard that I never would have expected - run away cows. Interesting time watching the farmers try and herd them beasties with their ford pick-me-up trucks.
Sunday's ride was nice and uneventful.

I don't know why some of these fools ride so slow, maybe they had some inexperienced riders in the group. I disagree that it's a "Harley Phenomenon". I've had to pass riders who weren't on HD's.

Do what we do when we get into the same situation; pass in a safe and courteous manner. There is no "Harley Protocol" that I'm aware of. I don't see the difference between that and someone's granny creeping along or a slow eighteen wheeler (if there is such a thing).

One thing I don't like is some squid blowing past me at 120, six inches from my mirror, with their "can" blasting.

We usually ride 5 to 10 over and don't normally have issues with anyone being held up. I'll usually pull over if we have an idiot tailgater anyway.

No pictures or report this time, just riding. :1drink

No pictures for us either Bob.

My note wasn't a slam to any group or brand. Just Sunday that was the general clustering of bikes, cruisers of the HD genre. It wasn't about that they are not possible to ride quick. The issue was we overtook a group riding slower than us for whatever reason. The tail guy was insistent we not merge into the group. There were no long passing sections to be able to pass the entire group. So is it customary group fashion to allow passing riders to merge into the lane with them when the passing area ends until the next passing opportunity? Do you force that issue or consider the group like one long snake and you pass it as a single entity? I know there isn't a set answer, just seeking opinions and what you also feel the most common view is from within a typical group of riders in these parts.

And Bob, where did the Black Pearl go Sunday?

The Black Pearl sailed along the New River, from Rt. 100 along Lead Mine Rd. through Snowville and back down the other side of Indian Valley, about 260 miles total.

She sails for Key West with eight others on the 21st. :clap

The folks I know don't merge with another group of bikes for many reasons. We don't pass until there's enough room for all of us to pass. I don't think we would be comfortable with strangers merging with our group either. I also keep a greater than normal following distance when I'm behind an unknown rider.

I used to get frustrated in those situations, but not so much any more (old age?). Unless you're responding to a fire, why not slow down and enjoy the view? :bubba

    My two cents, FWIW. :D
