Heading out tomorrow, start riding on Friday. I'll post up pics and start the "actual" ride report when I make it to Pahrump on Sunday. Returning a week from Saturday.

Here's a snapshot of the probable route. Cyan is southbound and yellow is northbound, although the two may intermingle a little in either direction. Red is an alternate route. There's a little "Cabin in the Rock" diversion outside of Mina not shown on this map that I might take too.

Riding right by the Flying M ranch where Fossett took off from. Should be interesting.

    Wish me luck! :wave

And thanks to all of you that have helped with the routes.:thumb

Keep us posted on your return trip times. Might come meet up with you and ride a day back up(if you don't mind a little company). Plus, I'll be in Bend for the AMA supermoto race at the end of the month. Might need your profession services:wink: .

Made it to the Rump. One flat (nail 7 miles from town) and 177 pictures. Epic ride. Working on a spotty internet connection here but will try to upload some pics and get the report started.

Planning the return trip on Saturday/Sunday/Monday.:thumb

So I'll try to start my actual ride report here and keep the babbling to a minimum. All I can say is that the ride down from Reno to Pahrump was awesome and challenging. The real challenging part was getting caught on the damn racecourse for Vegas to Reno, the other challenges were mainly rocks and sandy washes that had my overinlflated and top-heavy bike struggling to stay perpendicular. Otherwise, totally awesome.

I trucked my bike down to my brother and sister-in-laws house from Bend on Thursday and left Friday, headed towards the hills above Virginia City. They live more or less at the bottom of Geiger Grade so it was a great starting point.

Above VC and Reno after the sendoff from my nephews and their buddy:

Reno in the distance. Got buzzed by three Fossett hunting Blackhawks here and missed the pic:

    Washoe Lake

I was headed towards the Eldorado Canyon just outside of Dayton, where I ran into an old patient of mine at the gas station. Go figure.

    This was tough...

Great pics Brad! Keep 'em coming.

I recognize some of these places from our

Eldorado Canyon was a handful with a fully loaded and gassed up bike. I wouldn't recommend it for anything much bigger than a DRZ. My load was not packed the best either. Sorted it out on the second day and got the heavy stuff lower.

    First water crossing:

Critters... one of many lizards. Only saw three snakes, no rattlers.

Not sure how long this had been here. I'm thinking the only way it made it down this far in this canyon would be floating down the Carson River.

Finally got out of the canyon and was headed towards Smith Valley where I bumped into these guys looking for Steve Fossett. The Hummer in the background got it's rear window broken out by a flying rock flung from the quad trailer it was towing a little earlier.

Gassed up in Bybee, just outside of Smith Valley and then got into this area called Mickey Canyon. Soft, sandy, whooped out, hell on a heavy bike. But awesome nonetheless.

Had my only "crash" of the ride here:

Didn't even hit the ground, just kinda stepped off.:thumb

Heading towards the Flying M. My goal was to get somewhere past Hawthorne today and set up camp.

Flying M, the hunt was still on... that jet sitting there took off and scared the crap out of me just down the road when it flew overhead.

The front door of Flying M, guarded by a suspicious Sheriff that kinda gave me a half hearted wave back when I waved at him.

Looking back towards the Flying M. The canyon that it is in is ouutttt theerrree. Pretty much gotta fly the richies in lest you beat them to death in a 4wd or something.

Dropped down into Hawthorne, an army ammo dump. Weird looking from up high. Lots of bunkers.

    Looking towards Walker Lake.

Gassed up, called the wife, got a big beer for camp and headed out again. Still had about 2 hours of daylight.

Rode past Marietta and thru the wild burro reserve. Didn't realize I was in the reserve and saw no burros dangit...

Crossed Hwy 360 and ran into the ghost town of Belleville.

Time to set-up camp. Little creepy in a "The Hills Have Eyes" kinda way.

Big beer with a whiskey chaser, or vice versa...

Yes, that was the only big beer I could find in Hawthorne. Not a micro in sight.

Awesome pics and report!!! I've looked at those trails outside of Hawthorne and always wondered where they went.

    Keep it up!!!

Woke up a little too early Saturday morning, still a little dark and cold so I crawled back into the tent until the sun came up. Slept pretty well despite the airbraking of the semi's coming down Hwy 360 close to my little ghost town accomodations. Strange, didn't hear any ghosts.

    Sunrise

Checked out some sites on my way out of "town"...

The goal for today was Beatty, NV. Yesterday I rode exactly 200 miles and was determined to do about the same today. That way my last day of riding/camping will be a shorty.

    Heading towards the Candelara mine...

Cool sandy wash. Looked for snakes here while I ate a Clif Bar.

    This was all I got

Trail turned kinda faint thru here and I did a little bushwhacking

Ended up here, right off the road that goes to Silver Peak, NV

At this point I was supposed to head more due south up into the Argentite Canyon, but my water situation was less than stellar and my gas sitch was just okay, so I bailed on the canyon and rode down into Silver Peak with plans to head towards Goldfield to gas up.

In Silver Peak I was mainly just in search of water, but bumped into a guy named Joe Dunn at the Chemetall Foote company when I walked in the front door of their office. He not only set me up with total refills of my two Camelbak bladders but topped off my bike for NO CHARGE! Thanks heaps Joe!

There's not much in Silver Peak but if you ever get into a pinch in the NV desert you could count on Joe to help you out. He's also a member of the SAR team for the area come to find out as he told me about the mex2can rider that needed hauled out of Argentite Canyon a few weeks prior.

I picked up GPS tracks outside of Silver Peak again and promptly jumped off of the gravel road and back into the real dirt. More cool canyons and such and eventually I ended up here:

Would've loved to have stopped in for a beer at the saloon that appeared to be open (right across from the brothel, didn't look open) but I was on a mission. Onward.

It looks like one hell of a desert trip! Are you heading back the same route?

That is one long dusty ride just to go to the "Chicken Ranch"! What was the significance of going to Pahrump?

Living in NV, i find this entire trip both puzzling and amazing? What is your motivator? I have done much ghost town hunting in the past, but I am totally fascinated by your route. You are a brave soul...:bowNevada can be a harsh environment for sure. Where was the "interesting chap's" home??
