For those of you wondering what the hell I'm doing this for, I am a chiropractor and I do vacation relief for docs that need to be out of their offices. I trucked the bike to Reno (where I used to live and some of my family still lives) and started the ride from there. Heading back on Saturday and it looks like rain!:doh

The "castle" was on Hardluck City Road outside of Goldfield if my memory serves me correctly.

Couple more pics before I run to work this morning:

Now continuing south towards Beatty and a spot for the night.

Part of an old racecourse I'm sure. Whooped out and lots of washes to cross, but not soft like the more recently used course:

I got to Death Valley and had a 4 bar cell signal, believe it or not. Called the wife.

Into Beatty for gas and chow, and chow I got. HUGE fish tacos at the Ensenada!

A nice easy ride to my camp spot would've been nice... but no... more racecourse.

    Kinda made my stomach crazy.

Camp and smoke in the distance from the Big Bear Lake fire.

    more later...

Slept great out there alongside the Amargosa River. Woke up early, whipped up some Tully's French Roast and some Mountain House scrambled eggs with bacon (eewww!) and hit the trail again just before 8am. Short, uneventful day I was hoping...

More of this crap for awhile to start the day...

    Then some more rocks.

    Sweet.

There was just enough terrain change to keep it interesting out here. Then this...for miilllleeeessss.

    Saw no wildlife.

Then this, about 7 miles outside of town.

Got it back on and it wouldn't hold air. I was hot and all out of CO2's (still had my crappy little pump) but I decided to ride it flat to the highway.

I wasn't here 5 minutes and a kid on a TTR pulls up and asks if I've got someone coming to help. Told him no and he told me he'd go get his dad with a truck. Kid... you rock.

No tie downs. And I promptly gave myself a bloody nose picking desert goobers.

One way to arrive in Pahrump, just not the preferred way...

This dude was open on SUNDAY!!!!!

Nice guy, not cheap, but got a free t-shirt out of the deal.

And my accomodations for the week. Luckily I don't gamble.

    And they've got great parking...

Heading back tomorrow, hope the weather holds.

Lovin' this report... just wondering how hard it is to find fuel it looks soooo remote and even with the clarke tank your range can't be more than 180 miles... when i see those awesome pics of the roads as far as you can see and the mountains in the background i gotta think it takes all day or a good part of it to get there and thus what if there is no fuel when you reach the horizon you saw at the start of the day? you are fortunate to have such wide open areas... we here in NJ have our share of rocks and sand to spare but the views man! we ain't got those views!

    keep it coming!

I have to agree...that is one inspiring ride! At least you will have some cooler weather for the ride home. You were also lucky enough to experience one of best rain storms to hit the Pahrump area so hopefully you'll have some better trails on the way home. That race course area looks trashed....I hope you can find a better route.

    Brad,

Those sand whoops looked brutal! Can't imagine doing them on a bike as loaded down as your's is. Too bad about the nail but that shop being open on Sunday was a God-send! Note to self, cant' have too many CO2's. Glad to see things are going pretty well for you. The scenery is AWESOME!:clap

Jerry is right, those "Best in the Desert" guys are trashing the roads out there. Granted they are remote and probably get used once every blue moon, but they are long-lasting changes. I rode some roads that obviously weren't used this year but they were still whooped out from who knows how long ago. I also came across some course marking signs that weren't picked up as well as some water bottles and such, wheels and tires, etc... I think maybe they oughta sweep better and rehab the trails a bit. Tall order I know...:doh
