Ah man, I had totally forgotten about the Blue Ridge Trail maps! I stumbled across them a while back and after some quick searching found the thread. I will absolutely be going to ride some of it when it gets warm. If you are planning a trip make sure you post it up in here because I'm absolutely game. I'll take time off work. How many days were you thinking about riding/camping?

For all you hardcore adventure types, Greg Frazier just had a nice piece in MCN about the upcoming Big Dog Ride out in CO.

I've looked at (and considered) this for a number of years, but could never muster up the gnads to even consider it... especially after seeing this shot:

Considering I was freaked out being on the roof Saturday something tells me I wouldn't be doing that.

Ahh, they don't make them like they used to. I just rode to Florida in 40 degree temps, in January, and thought I was tough. But then I remembered doing the same ride in 2004, but with a fellow BMW rider who was 81 years old. Gene, was tough, and cantankerous. Rode 700 miles to Florida in January, and pitched a tent and CAMPED on the ground. Even thru his 70's he would ride to Death Valley each year for a rally in January. Rode from Virginia! In January. I don't care which route you take, that requires balls.

I've personally been waiting for winter to return to the east coast. I'd love to do an Elephant Treffen at Laurel Fork in January. They are legendary in Germany. But it just hasn't been cold or snowy enough to try to set it up. But this week has really made me want to do it.

raised in that neighborhood. the coldest i remember as a kid was -63, and vehicles with those new fangled auto transmissions couldn't move even if they could be started.

had a paper route at age 7, but my father was supposed to drive me if it was -20 or colder at 6AM. he ended up driving me every day for 6 weeks.

it's much warmer up there now, i think they had to cancel the sled dog race for the second year due to lack of snow.

warm weather is an economic disaster for these areas, no snowmobile use, no ice fishing derbies, and so on. it costs the local businesses millions per week in lost revenue.

I'm thinking about taking off work altogether to explore some areas that look like they might make good dirt riding in north Richmond and then maybe doing some carb work. Anyone else doing bikey things?

UPDATE: There has been a slight change in plans. LOL! :lol2
A gentleman recently gave me a deposit to hold the GS for a couple of weeks and then realized that this was not the time for him to have my bike. No problem at all amigo, I love my old girl and I was already missing her! I kindly offered to refund him his deposit. So, here we are again, the bike is here and for sale at $8500 firm. I do, as always, have my eye on something newer, but I am in no rush as I already have ideas of taking her to Labrador this summer! :ricky

    Keep the rubber side down!

Heck yeah! August, September? My only request is to stop by and say hello to a dear friend in NH that I haven't seen in 15 years.

we'd come through NH on the inbound leg, no problem. all the route sections are well documented, with additional inmate assistance available for any specifics. all the gravel should be mostly big bike friendly. several stretches in Quebec and Labrador around 250 miles with no fuel. i've been on some of the route.
