Since it has been quiet in here, I thought I'd share my excitement. About 10:15, I hear a branch fall. I look out the window and don't notice anything. A couple minutes later I look again and see smoke and flames from behind my garage. A big tree branch fell off the churches pine tree and landed on the power lines. It then proceeded to arc the lines and catch fire. Called the FD. About 5 minutes before they showed my neighbor and I are watching the branch burn, arc, hiss and whistle until it finally blows the transformer plunging our block into darkness. Branch stopped burning after the power cut off.

Here is the photo from when it was burning.

No ETA on Dominion. I also get to go look to make sure it doesn't catch again. The lowest thing on the pole is the Verizon FiOS fiber-optic. The insulation is ever so slowly burning and dripping onto the ground. FD won't put anything on it because the are treating it as a live powerline.

    Photo of burning fiber optic.

I don't use FiOS but my neighbor does. O expect I'll share my wifi key. It will be a week or two before that gets fixed based on past experience. I have Comcrap. We will see if their wire survived.

I hope you stocked up on milk and bread so you can... uh... make soggy bread? Why do Virginians rush to buy those two items when it snows??
