Ride the Blue Ridge Rally, (Knobbies) Catawba Meadows Park, 701 Sanford Drive Morganton, NC 28655 Sep. 14-16.

We are happy to invite you to the 8th Annual RIDE the BLUE RIDGE with the Knob Mountain NC Motorcycle Chapter (Knobbies). The rally site is Catawba Meadows Park in Morganton. There is easy access to Interstate 40, and the best riding in the southeastern United States, including the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Snake, the Dragon, and many more roads that have not yet been “named”. Great tent camping is available on the rally site, as well as private shower facilities. RV sites are also available on-site as well. There are about 20 electrical hookups, but there is limited water and no septic hookups. There are local campgrounds nearby with full hook-ups for those that require sewer. Morganton has plenty of motel/hotel space as well. On Saturday night there will be live entertainment, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Food will be available on-site and a meal voucher will be provided in your packet for anytime during the event. We will be providing riders with the “Ride Along with the Knobbies” program during your stay. We will have dual sport rides, a “peaks” ride, and a ride designed for “taking-it-easy” cruising. We look forward to seeing everybody. Pre-registration $45.00. Watch our web site www.knobbies. org for the latest information.

Proceeds go to the South Mountain Children's home, a home for abused and neglected children.

Interested. Your website has the dates of this event as 09/15 to 09/17 vs. your posted event dates here. What type of DS rides are you guys planning and where? I am pretty familiar with that area since I ride both my Husky and Vstrom quite often. BTW, what is a "peaks" ride?

    Thx.

I'm in. First time in that part of the world. If anyone is going to ride big bike friendly dirt or gravel roads I would like to tag along

Hi, I can't make the full rally as I need to take my son to visit App State in Boone that Saturday but the good news is sunday morning I am free as the wife and son head back to Raleigh and I will be heading south to Brevard for an Adventure riding course**

So for the Knobbies event, where there be any organized or ad hoc ridge, river trail or gravel riding that Sunday? Or are any of you interested in meeting up that mid morning for one last ride especially if you are heading west or south?

I'm working on routes but here's what I'm thinking so far: https://goo.gl/maps/iEENai818H92 (google map tiny link)

And the ** footnote on the MotoMark class. This is a local NC based company out of Greensboro. Here's the details in case any of you are looking for something like this.

** On Sunday, I will be on my GS heading from Boone to Brevard where I'll be taking the MotoMark Adventure riding class on Monday and Tuesday. Should be a great class and if you are interested I see there are 4 spots open. Should be great training on the type of riding I am already attempting not really knowing what i'm doing or how to get out of tight spots.

Are the dual sport rides guided, gps or route sheet? Any single track?

    @Boatman
I'm sorry, but I do not know anything specifically about it --- and I live here! :D The only thing on the site that I could find is this: "We will have dual sport rides, a “peaks” ride, and a ride designed for “taking-it-easy” cruising. We look forward to seeing everybody."

I would suggest a call to one of the members, but it will take a little digging. Or send them an email at: purdy75@gmail.com, hisconc@gmail.com, gene@hisco-nc.com

Oopps,, for some reason I thought you were the OP of this thread when I posted. I sent an email to the rally master and hope to hear back.

I'm down near Lake Lure and can only make it up for Saturday. Been down here (from upstate NY) for over 2 years and have yet to find any locals to ride with.

After sending messages and emailing the rally master, I finally was able to get some answers on their FB page....

"Scott, these rides are guided, usually do at least one, maybe two road rides depending on interest. Also usually do a dualsport ride consisting of dirt/gravel backroads. Don't thing we have any single track plans."

I think I'm going to pass on this event, I don't like follow the leader rides, I like to go at my own pace which is usually faster than the groups like to go.

No wonder you can't find locals to ride with. :D Just kidding Boatman, just kidding.
Honestly, I can't ride with much anyone. There's only one buddy that I can ride with, but he doesn't get out that often -- he's a top surgeon. The good thing about riding with him is that I know that if I fall off, I will be well attended.

I think that my preference for riding alone has much more to do with my idiosyncrasies than anything else. The "camp fire" time and meeting new people (like at this event) is great though.

Single track is almost non-existent in this area. In N.C. there are 1.25 million acres of public lands, and the vast majority of single track/off road is in the Brown Mtn. OHV which is 34 whole miles! That, IMO, is a crime.

If you would like to swap some routes, I would be glad to tell you what I know.
