    <span style="text-align: start;">Hi Guys! I have been following ADVRIDER reports for years and finally am venturing out on my own trip. I would like to thank you guys for your great post showing that you dont need to be rich or have a ton of gear. JDOWNS has been a huge inspiration in this aspect!
    I will be traveling with my brother Colin (30yrs old), and childhood friend Eddie (32y yrs).
    We will be riding our motorcycles from the USA (Florida & Kansas) through Mexico and Central America to the Darien Gap in Panama.&nbsp;</span></div>

    We hope to cross the US/Mexican boarder about April 5th.</div>
    <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

    But before then we have tons of bike&nbsp;maintenance!&nbsp;</div>
    <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
    So far I have done three full days of wrenching to minimize any breakdowns south of the boarder.</div>

    <b style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: #6aa84f; font-size: large;">The planning for this trip has been fairly minimal regarding exact routes and dates. We will most likely be hugging the Eastern coast of Mexico making our way south checking out national parks and&nbsp;ancient&nbsp;ruins alone the way. Does anyone know if the KLR counter sprocket nut is something available at a hardware store?

    $10 plus shipping tells me it must be a special item.

    consult the klr obsessives in the klr thread. im sure they have like a billion alternatives to the stock nut. you can probably use an obscure nut found only in a 1984 VCR tape recorder in a pinch :lol3

    With your buddy riding down from Kansas and your plans to cross Texas, looking at the nasty weather still happening up there I'd say give it till Apr. 5 before you start your ride. They say spring is coming. They just forgot when.:rofl
    Good luck and have fun.

    That's Awesome! I'm pretty jealous. I used to live all over Panama and I've been wanting to go back there for years. How long are you planning on staying and what sites do you plan on visiting while you're there?

    When did you live there? My Family is from there and left in 1999 after the canal transfer. Our trip is kind of open, I will run out of cash before I run out of time. Not sure where we are stopping yet.

    Bummer bout the finger, man. If it was me I'd want that sharp little chunk outta there. I can only see that being a source of irritation. But I can fully understand your dilemma after being knocked off my bike in the States a few weeks ago. The three hr stay in emerg was five grand and the twenty minute follow up was 450. I had the travel ins. but still had to pay up front and do a Hell of a lot of paper work to get my money back.
    On the good side, if it sets you back a week or two, you'll maybe get some spring weather.:evil

    Good luck with your trip :clap

    As for the finger....get that foreign object out of there....it will only cause grief sooner or later.

    As for medical costs.....that's why you guys need a better health care system....and not one like you currently have....Obama is on the correct path with his thinking.

    When I had surgery in Canada after breaking a leg in Baja, it didn't cost me a penny, aside from the taxes I had paid (a portion of which is allocated to health care) annually.

    When you cross into Mexico and other countries, you are crossing a BORDER.....a "boarder" is the guy renting your basement :lol3

    I was there from 2005-2007 and lived near Panama City (In San Miguelito & Arraijan), then Colon, Chorrera, and finally in La Conception which is between David and Costa Rica. It's also Right along the Pan-American Highway so I used to watch BMW's and KLR's pass me all the time!

    So does that mean you're from Panama or just your family? If you're familiar with the sites down there even better, Otherwise I could point out some amazing places that you have to visit.
