    So The Surgen said to go back Tuesday for follow up and stitches removal.
    He said if it was him he would leave the metal in unless there is irritation or infection. I am on antibiotics 4x a day for like 10 days.

    If I need surgery I will try and do it in Mexico. Not inclined to empty my savings over a 2mm drill bit particle.

    Sounds like a great ride. Most of my family all live in Jacksonville (San Marco / St. Nicholas) and I live in San Jose, Costa Rica.

    Send me an email when you get to Costa Rica and save a couple of days for the country. There are some extremely great rides and places to visit. A small country but some big rides in some incredible country. I'll be glad to give you a few ideas if your interested in spending a few days in Costa Rica.

    Personally, if you want to get the most out of the roads in this area the Continental TKC 80 tires work great. Check out a ride down through the Corcovado area in the south western part of Costa Rica. Some of my favorite riding, great beaches, some serious mountains, etc., etc., etc.

    Remember the rainy season is between May and December here. September, October, and November are the heavy months. Some roads can be a little challenging and schedules can be impacted but truly makes the ride. Bring good, light weight, definitely water proof coverings if your going to be riding through this time of the year. The rains hit almost always in the afternoon everyday.

    I ride Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 every day and garage a Triumph Tiger 955i.

    Yappei,
    I wonder if we know your family. We rent at the beach for a great price, but SAN MARCO is a fun area.

    We will definitely be reaching out to you in a few weeks. I am in a dilemma regarding tires. My front tire is have about 65% life left in it and the rear has about the same. I really want to hit the road with confidence but hate to waste any life left on them. I will check out the TKC 80's, maybe I can ship them to Texas and change them there.

    You will encounter a lot of water. Suggest you consider the ''T'' or ''Y'' mod.
    It'll save you a lot of water in the carb issue.

    Might check out klrworld.com, they are super friendly about helping.

    Sounds like you're off to a good start by learning a lot about your scoot.
    You're doing it the right way, yourself.

    Would run those tires to the end. Don't waste good rubber, when you know of a good stopping point to spoon on new shoes.

    We will be updating on the road. We are definitely taking iphone so with wifi can post updates. I have a 8 month old Mac book pro 13" and am concerned about it getting banged up on the road. Do you guys have any experience with hard drives and connections rattling apart?

    I've carried my HP Pavilion for my whole eight month trip and it still works altho the harddrive sound like running water in the background. Doesn't seem to effect it, tho.

    Sounds like an awesome ride. My biggest concern would be safety; not worried about motorcycle related problems or the elements, but crazy people. Isn't theft and being robbed or attacked an issue? Maybe I am just an ignorant American?

    I have been to Costa Rica and it was a very nice place, but I would be worried about everyplace between the US border and the Costa Rican border.

    Kunz,
    I am sure there are some sketchy areas. But I have yet to read about them on advrider. We are conscious of the possibility of being targets, but wont let the slight chance keep us at home.

    <span style="color: lime;">Late last night we completed installing Colin's Happy Trail crash bars which included highway pegs.&nbsp;</span></div>
    <div style="text-align: center;">
    <span style="color: lime;">In the 6 year of owning my KLR I have never had a need or interest in highway pegs.&nbsp;</span></div>
    <div style="text-align: center;">
    <a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1M07EM7po6s/UVTSbxdk99I/AAAAAAAAAL0/Kr4muk2urlo/s1600/IMG_0257.jpg" imageanchor="1"><span style="color: lime;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1M07EM7po6s/UVTSbxdk99I/AAAAAAAAAL0/Kr4muk2urlo/s400/IMG_0257.jpg" width="300" /></span></a></div>
    <div style="text-align: center;">
    <span style="color: lime;">But after sitting on the 2009 KLR with the new highway pegs I realized how comfy they were.</span></div>
    <div style="text-align: center;">
    <span style="color: lime;"><br /></span></div>
    <div style="text-align: center;">
    <span style="color: lime;">So I found an article online <a href="http://klr650.carguy.org/highway.php">http://klr650.carguy.org/highway.php</a>&nbsp;explaining how to make them cheap, which is just my style.</span></div>

    Look forward to seeing you guys in Costa Rica. Email: segura_91007@yahoo.com. By the way - tires can be purchased on the trip. However, for example, in Costa Rica the right models may not always be available or if they are can be typically double the price as compared to the U.S (applies to most moto parts). Kawasaki and KTM both have excellent service centers here in Costa Rica. In fact, the KTM dealer is also the Triumph Dealer.

    Did you live in Jacksonville a few years ago?
    If so we met at a cads meeting. I did the carb vent tmod and I hope I catch some of the dry season but I know it rains 9 months of the year in the lower countries.

    <span style="color: lime;">Today Colin and I installed his new Tusk Hand Guards. For $50 they are hard to beat!</span><br />
    <span style="color: lime;">I would say they are as good or even better than the $90 Acerbis hand guards.</span><br />
    <span style="color: lime;"><br /></span>
    <span style="color: lime;">Needless to say the simplest upgrades require a bit of work. In this case the 2009 KLR has a welded ring on the handlebars used to route the cables. This needed to be cut off and smoothed out.&nbsp;</span><br />

    <span style="color: lime;">So Colin and I got a email Thursday night about 10 PM from our Dad (Hugh) with a craigslist post for a 2006 KLR fully farkled out with 8,700 miles for a pretty good price here in Jacksonville</span><span style="color: lime;">.&nbsp;</span><br />
    <span style="color: lime;"><br /></span>
    <span style="color: lime;">He then told us that he had been following </span><a href="http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=831076">JDOWNS ride reports</a><span style="color: lime;"> on advrider like a hawk and our loving Mother told him he should just join our adventure &nbsp;"because it was a once in a life time opportunity".</span><br />
    <span style="color: lime;"><br /></span>
    <span style="color: lime;">After the shock wore off that he really wanted to join us we called the&nbsp;advertisement&nbsp;and made an&nbsp;appointment&nbsp;to check out the bike.&nbsp;</span><br />
    <span style="color: lime;"><br /></span>
    <span style="color: lime;">Colin and I kicked the tires and bought the bike after haggling for an hour.</span><br />
