Turnsleft, bspf and I rode over FS 17/18 to FS 24, a new area for us. bscman had dropped me a line about the fine views there and he was right.
We met up and the normal spot...

White Horse was wrapped in clouds as we neared Darrington

:DWhat a great ride today Tom. This is by far the most time I have ever spent in the saddle of a motorcycle in one day. I put in close to 240 miles and twelve hours. The scenery at White Chuck was spectacular. The ride on the ridge would be hard to beat anywhere. Thank you to you and Kelvy for allowing me to accompany you both.
Looking forward to the next ride.

Glad you guys made it up. You can get a pretty epic sunset up there, too!

If you're feeling daring, next time hike to the top of white chuck--ya know, if you don't mind loose, rocky, steep scrambles with HUGE open exposure!

That's like sayin' 5.4 is third class just cause you don't use a rope. Not for the faint of heart.

Nice ride and pictures, thanks for sharing! It's always great to find such good stuff close to home. I was up that way on Sunday climbing a new route up Vesper and it reminded me how beautiful the mtn loop hwy is.

The difficulty is 90% mental, simply because of the exposure.
There is only one (short!) section near the summit that gets a little dicey.

Not something to attempt in motorcycle boots, though! :eek1

Here I am already:dog Couldn't get my smugmug fired up. I only took one picture and it only took 2.5 hours and two Macs to get it on here. Not happy.
    Oh well.

Craig and Tom led a fun ride yesterday, even went to some new places with very good views. Even had a Spicy Salmon Burger in Darrington.:D

This is Craig, we are on our way back from the end of FS 2435 looking kinda NW. Just over the ridge on the SW side there was a white cross and some serious down off the side.

On the way down we turned on the 24 road and headed for Rat Trap and stopped by this tree.:cry

After we popped out on 530 we went back to the power line then 18/17 and home. Tom stopped for a picture and I reminded him that there might be some deer out hunting for motorcycle riders. Tom already had it backed down a bit. Craig led down from the look~out on 17 and said that one of them deer things tried to get him. Once we hit the pavement Craig took off a for Anacortes in the fading light.

That was a fun ride. It has been a while since we have gotten to ride with Craig. peterman have your friend give us a pm, or if you want I could pm you my cell number.

:loll Squishy; truth be told I went out there just to have a look~see at the new views. I'm not that bashful. Tom bashes through that kinda stuff with his DSLR all the time. Some thing about the light being right.:huh

This is White Chuck. It's much better looking in real life.

Tom and Kelvy rattin' up to White Chuck. They have bored out KLX 250's that my KLR can't keep up with.

Tom got yelled at by the flagger for trying to pass this dump truck.

A rare image of Tom. He's always taking the pictures. Kelvy rides sweep so I don't get lost.

This is why the Skagit is so special. Mountains to the east. San Juan Islands to the west.

A special thanks to Kelvy for explaining to me how to post images. My first time ever.

Just for clarification, a CAT operator had gestured for me to ride around as the truck was idle. I moved a little to the left
as the truck started to move just as the flagger waved frantically at me. I stopped and she came up and told me
"I've seen lot's of people killed trying to do that", she apparently worked with a lot of stress and anxiety from those events :eek1.
I was very glad to be away from such an unlucky individual as we followed the truck down to highway 530. :huh

I rode up there several years ago on opening day of deer season. :eek1
The Ranger (who was taking pictures along with the rest of us) warned us to stay on the road.
Looking a ride with you guys soon. :D
