Thoroughly enjoying your ride reports. My wife and I were out riding a week ago as well and came across the Spyder folk at the West Barwon dam near Forrest.

Do you know if there any good places to bush camp up near Marysville?

    Cheers Jules

The Tiger wanted to be part of the scene..

    G'day Jules.

    Thanks for reading!

Hope you didn't get stuck behind the Can-Am folks like we did!

As far as I am aware, Anderson Mill campground is the only campsite in the area.

Here is a crappy map I found on the internet.

Couldn't really see any good places to 'wild' camp as it is mostly forestry areas out there.

You might be able to find somewhere reasonable if you were actually looking though..

Toolangi State Forest has good campgrounds and is in a roughly similar area geographically.

    Cheers,

    JM.

Hi there! Mrs Tiger dropping in again to add some of my thoughts, memories, stories and a couple more photos to the ride report, hope you don’t mind..

Even a motorbiker needs cash out sometimes! I always feel a bit wrong using the ATM with my helmet on, like someone is watching with a camera and thinking I’m going to knock the joint over!! jmcg doesn’t seem worried though :lol3
    [IMG]

Just after we hit this road block..
..and turned around to back track the way we had come, jmcg stopped the TIger at the top of a steep slope lined with fairly biggish loose rocks. When I asked if he was ok, he replied “now just hold on tight, we might crash a little bit here.” Oh boy, now this really might become a proper adventure! I put the camera temporarily back in my pocket(so no photos), just in case I was thrown off the bike, and held on tight to jmcg as we started the descent. I am pleased to report that we made it safely to the bottom without incident (other than a fairly constant stream of swearing coming through the helmet intercom!).

I love these photos where you can see the track wiggling off into the distance. Something about them makes me think of the Wizard of Oz and following the yellow brick road..?

Now I think I mentioned in a previous report that at times I’m not too technically minded when it comes to cameras and electronic equipment. Well this ride I’m back using the little point and shoot camera (such a relief not to be lugging around the huge SLR camera on these gravel roads and hopping on and off the bike). Anyway, I’m usually in charge of taking the ‘selfies’ of the two of us standing in front of various backgrounds. And today I decided that we needed one while standing on the lookout overlooking Marysville. So here goes..
oops… didn’t realise that the camera was still zoomed in!! Haha, you can just see a few strands of my hair blowing in the wind :rofl
    [IMG]

    Try again…
    [IMG]
    That’s better :D

And some more outstanding selfie attempts at Steavenson Falls..

Just caught the edge of my cap..

Marginally better, I got myself in the frame this time (and really centred up that random girl in the background!), shame that I pretty much cut out the falls!

    SUCCESS!

Till next time, take care and we might see you out on the road somewhere!

    1st November 2013.

    Emerald - Alexandra.

With the arrival of the good weather, we decided to make the most of it.

We barely get out the door when I spot this awesome Meyers Manx buggy.

These things rock and I've always wanted one..

Best I can do is a pic next to it :D

5 minutes out of town, the roadworks start..

    Fortunately, no long delays.

Saw this adventure bike from times past in Healesville (well, riding it these days would be an adventure as far as I am concerned!).

    Riding the Black Spur.

Stopped for our first short break at Narbethong Reserve.

    Off again on Plantation Rd.

    A good sign?

    The pine plantations.

As we rode on Plantation Rd, a small group of Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos kept us company by flying along above us for a short time.

    Plantation Rd.

Plantation Rd becomes Black Range Rd.

Lots of logging activity around here and the road surface changes depending on how much traffic uses it.

Stopped at the powerlines on Black Range Rd.

    Found a little passenger.

The view along the power lines.

    Back on track.

    Stopped for some bush 'art'.

    Lake Eildon.

It is a really spectacular area up around Lake Eildon.

I can see why so many people spend their holidays here.

I can't believe I had never been riding out here before today.

Looking forward to spending some more time here in the future..

Heard this coming up the hill from some distance away.

    Dusty..

Fortunately we only had to move aside for one of those on the way back down the hill.

Not much room on the narrow dirt roads when one of them is steaming towards you..

And was the weatherman right or was he right? What a ripper day!
Left home intending to go way up to Narbethong and do your Murrindindi ride. But got distracted by a gravel road with a name that could only be familiar from hours studying this fine travelogue! So I spent the morning on East Beenak Road, Mount Beenak Road getting to Launching Place. Then the afternoon in other parts of Bunyip State Park and Kurth Kiln Regional Park.
So I got nowhere near my destination but had a great day on the gravel roads.
    No maps from me (I'm a Cyber-Ancient).
    Some piccies though:
    Puffing Billy doing his thing:

    Road through the rocks.

Wild Orchid (I think) growing on the top of the rock in previous pic
    [IMG]

Gravel roads, most of them very good with only a few potholes to be very wary of
    [IMG]

The big pig had a little lie down. Stalled on the very last bit of this steep steep climb back to the main track then lost footing on the gravel. D'Oh.

    And the Answer was YES!
And the Question was "Can you lift it up by yourself if you drop it?".
Going to the chiropractor tomorrow, but.

Cheers guys, thanks for letting me piggy back on your thread. I promise I'll start my own when the cyber skills get to be a little less ancient.

    Edit:
Resized the piccies, should be more betterish now.

    Hey Brian,

Glad you got out there and had what looks like a great ride.

It is an awesome riding area around there - Nothing too challenging and nice and quiet during the week.

Love the pic of the sleeping GS.

Thanks again for adding your own experiences.

It is always good to see others enjoying the same places we visit.

Might see you around in the future.

Let me know if you ever want any track/route advice about any of the places you see here.
