****Minor title change 3/29/17 - swapped from the S10 to two DR650 and the ride is continuing, but now on as much dirt as possible.

Bike swap starts on post #1889
    HERE

New concept is real simple to explain -
minimalist, smaller bike, trying to ride the maximum amount of dirt possible to create the ultimate RTW adventure route but by no means a quick or direct route, with loads more cool photos.

    Original thread title -

"Five billion inches - riding RTW and back…for as long as it takes"

Before the ride let me explain the title…the one that hopefully got your attention???

    The calculation is this:

The world is approximately 24,000 miles around, and that’s approximately 1.5 billion inches, so round and back is 3 billion and we’re not going in a straight line so I added 2 billion inches for a non-direct route…fudge factor if you will

…and if you don’t live in one of the areas high lighted in red below that use inches, you'll understand the metric system and are in the modern world so to speak; your calculation will be 127,000,000,000 mm

The basic idea for the route is below, it’s not to scale and not all that exact it’s just a rough idea that will probably change from day to day.

Just want to give you an idea of where we are kind of headed…

First two countries up are Mexico and Cuba…yes CUBA for a month

…but if you are close to one of those red or blue lines wave to us as we go by, or if you’re so inclined offer us some tent space; ‘cause we’ll say yes

Right now Africa is in limbo (so no line), i used to live there so not in a rush to be there during this political climate

This is not my first RTW, but this one is going to be different for me, it’s a two up ride with no end date…both of those are firsts, this is the big one so to speak

I personally have been thru 85 countries, so for me quite a few countries will be revisited at a much slower pace, to see places again, or new areas for both of us

…When I continue, the story it will begin in Kazakhstan back in 2014…for some strange reason that will be explained; stay tuned….

below are clickable links to take you the start of section/ country

here's a little teaser of what you'll find if you read the whole thing...

You go Paul and Jenn! Looking good.

No wonder my ass is sore. I rode 31 million inches today.

Hope to see you two down the road.

    Kindest regards,

If your travels get you near Winslow, I've got a good size yard for a tent. I'll be watching this one. Safe travels!

That's a lot of lines on that map. Our paths should surely criss cross along the way.
I will make room for your tent next to mine........sure hope you don't snore

Will be following along. I'd like to think our paths will cross. Either on the road as we head RTW, starting in about 8 months, or here in Oz, where you are welcome to relax at our home.
