Try and hit the SS Badger Ferry service from Ludington, MI to Manitowoc, WI. or vice versa. fun trip across the lake. Bike and Rider $116 and some change.
I did it two weeks ago and am looking forward to doing it next time circumstances permit.

Enjoy the ride and welcome to Canada. I really hope you enjoy your time up here. I would suggest you have a Passport not really needed to get into Canada although it makes it easier for entry. My American friends have advised me that it is a pain to try and return to the US without a passport.

The ride along Lake Superior is magnificent.

Sounds like a great trip, except for the rain. Just put a new tire on the front of my Ultra Classic so I am ready to go. Just find the time now.

When you travel into the Upper Penninsula of Michigan the riding becomes very different less agricultural and more forests. It is a cool place to ride and very bike friendly. There is a good discount program in the UP promoting bike tourism. Look up UP Cruising. The Harley dealer in Marquette participates and has the discount info.

Great roads up to Copper Harbour . I would suggest you might want to head west to Duluth MN then north on 61 to Canada. Keeping the water on the right means you wont be blocked from the awesome views of Superior by the trucks.

In Canada continue on 61 to Thunder Bay then join the Trans Canada Highway 17 . Lots of photo ops along the highway. It is a major transport route with lots of traffic .

Enjoy your ride and watch for the Moose in Canada and the UP as well. Large and stupid is a bad combination. Night riding is not advisable as they are really difficult to see. The mosquitos will drive them out of the woods and onto the roads looking for a breeze.

If you are planning on camping the provincial park at Batchawana Bay north of Sault Ste Marie has awesome sunsets looking over lake Superior . The water will be very cold for swimming .

If you keep your tank fueled up you wont have issues. Your bike will run about 200 miles or 320 kms with no issues. Your partners heritage will need fuel sooner than you so that will be your bench mark. Premium is available but pricy.

There is a Harley dealer in Thunder Bay right at the main intersection of Hwy 17 and 11. The next dealer is Sudbury over 600 miles away.

I hope you have a great ride.
