Ok .... I'm hold up in Durango CO recovering from some awful mess of cold/bronchitis/flu whatever....
Yesterday I started to regain some mental function mobility.
I'll get the blog updated shortly now that I'm back among the living...
and sorting thru some gear issues....................

    Speaking of gear issues:

If there is anybody in the Durango CO area that could use a 40 Liter SKB topcase ...
(used, has some mounting holes drilled in it, and is NOT waterproof)
It's a defective design so was not waterproof even when new.
I'm swapping it out for a Pelican case that I KNOW will be waterproof, no more "Pelican-Imposters" in my future ....

I'm going to post the case offer here:

Sick is no good, sick on a trip is just the ticket for misery. Just be glad there is not a woman around to tell you to keep moving, you are not that bad!

Ok ... Rome was good :-)
Very good to a sick guy like me....
I'm 90% recovered, and am back on the road.

I took 550 south so I can see Carlsbad Caverns on the way to El Paso TX.
I have linked up with a group of about 10 riders, lead by two riders with much "Mexican Experience" ...
I can't remember the twists & turns, but made their aquantance as result of a HORIZONS UNLIMITED weekend session I went to this past spring.

We'll be joined by some friends of theirs for part of the ride, and will also be taking in the international convention:
    http://motorradfederacionmexico.com/index.php?lang=en

We'll be crossing the border into Mexico from El Paso the morning of Oct. 2nd.
The convention runs from the 4th to the 7th....
From there (tentatively speaking) we'll be heading thru:

    · San Luis Potosi
    · San Miguel de Allande
    · Guanajuato
    · Guadalajara
    · Tequila
    · Puerto Vallarta
    · Mazatlán
    · Durango
    · Cosalá
    · San Carlos
    · Banamichi
    · Nogales.

and a few other places ............
This should be a blast and give me a 'gentle' introduction to Mexico.

Alas the internet connection at tonight's "America's Best Value Inn" makes me long for the days of my 56K dial-up connection, so ...
a "real" blog update is going to have to wait.................

Enjoy the trip, having people along that know the lay of the land can be very comforting.

One of my front fork seals is leaking (weeping) really.
The chrome tube is scored just enough to catch a fingernail ... ... either from some TAT debris ... of some internal parts screwup....
The score mark is not too deep, so on Reaver's advice I'm going to try to find an assortment of fine sandpaper and at least knock off the worst of it.
Spend some time trying to find a replacement set of seals yesterday but they were only available here in Roswell in common UFO-interplanetary sizes...
with no cross-reference to German "unstoppable" sizes....

Packing now to head to El Paso later to day ...
Hope to get a few licks in on the blog before Comfort Suites kicks me out....
(BTW: WTF is it with the desks in these rooms - do they think everyone who stays here is Andre the Giant ?)

Don't hurry. The moto dealership doesn't open until Tuesday, though maybe you could scrounge a fork from the nearby moto junkyard in Las Cruces, just north of El Paso.

I used one of these on it last night: http://sealmate.net/
Today ... it's better, but all on-road riding so the front forks didn't get much exercise.....
I did find a packet of assorted sand paper from 400 grit down to 800 grit at a local tractor supply (that was a real stroke of luck).
Dark now ... but will see what things look like in the morning!

I've met most of the gang for the first leg south....
They are dragging me out for dinner and beer now!
Damn another delay in updating the blog ...
I'm full of them (it)? :photog

Cool! :clap Hope you got the grit out. Take new seals with you to CR if you gotta hit the road. There's a slim chance someone down Puntarenas-way might be willing to monkey around with it. Maybe.
