OK. I'm in the mood for a ride. for breakfast. in Coldfoot, Alaska.

So, it's Wednesday. Coffee is brewing.

I recently scored a new scoot (to me) and have to figure what to take and how the luggage is going to attach to the bike.

    The bike:
    20170430a.jpg

I'm not a fan of the color scheme, but it's functionality is what is needed for my style of adventure travel - and it does wheelies. The GS didn't do those. That's OK.

Ooh, gotta take swimmies - gotta stop at Liard! Take the bug net.

So I mapped out how long it will take to get my breakfast, not the dog's breakfast, but mine.
    Here's what google shows:
    Route.jpg

68 hours. That's, like, 3 days. That's Saturday. I can do that. not

I'll be on a mobile device while I travel, so I hope I can get the photos posted well.

For the scoot , yesterday just made it to the 1st service mark 1,000km 600 miles-ish. Oil changed. check. I scored a beefy long distance tire for the back. My hands are still sore from those tire spoons.
    20170725_094858.jpg

OK - I think I'll roll to Holbrook, Arizona today. Google sez that's 250 miles-ish.
If I leave by 10am-ish this morning, I should get there eventually.

I'll be camping most of the way, because I'm a bum. I'll be taking the 8 foot bivy with me. It's yuuuuge.
    20170718e.jpg

I won't be taking the mountain bike.

I have to slab some of the ride today, because we've got running washes that make my normal route impassable. bummer. that bike really likes the dirt.

Did I mention the bakery in Haines Junction? yum

    Mission: Omelete

My first posting test with the mobile device....

Packing the bike. Gotta get this stuff on the bike.

This bike has no tach, and the speedo is off 5%.
The GPS will work nicely. I've got my favorite spots saved in there somewhere.

This mobile typing is horrible. I wish my macbook was this portable.
I'll tolerate it....I want to share this trip with ya!

The first pics worked fine earlier this morning, but now I can't see them either. Maybe a hosting problem?

Thanks. I knew that when I posted, but it took a bit to figure out how to put the side bags on the bike. There are 8 million straps and they will blow around. Had to make some mods.
I'll see about getting the google pics linked later.

In the mean time here are the two that are incorrectly linked:

    OK inmates...I need some assistance.....
I have pictures in Google. There is an intuitive way on a keyboard computer on getting the shared link.
Check out links previously and you'll see the difference in their addresses.

How do I get the link from a shared picture I have in Google from a mobile device?

Oh and one tip for today. I told ya my speedo is off 5%.....explaining to highway patrol that wheelies help correct the overall mileage on my odometer. Not advised.

The steak samich was recommended rather than the burger. It's delicious especially with all the dust I ate earlier

Here's where the dust came from. Freshly graded. Nice and smushy. That was fun. I didn't ride all that conservatively. In my defense it is a 350 ok 400 lb (with gear) dirt bike with 75 freaking horsies. The music was jammin - so that's my story. I may stick with it.

I'll just post pictures via ADV. That means non members can't see them. No worries.

Last 30 minutes of the ride yesterday was medium speed dirt. Nice quiet isolated location.

Thanks. This bike is noticeably better than my 2015 690 Enduro. The suspension got a nice workout yesterday. 11 inches travel f/r really worked well. The power is smoother. Since you can turn off ABS on the bike...I would like to turn off gentle-throttle mode. Sometimes I want to behave childishly. OK all the time.

Bike has 13 liters + 4 in my tank bag. 17 liters will get me a range of 200 miles ish.

6,000 mile service interval. Just like my GS did.

    Word of the day...vicariously+bike....
    Bikariously.

I'm doing this ride report so others can bikariously ride along.

In Holbrook AZ now. Had 20 minutes of mostly high speed dirt this morning. This bike brings a big smile on my face.

    That's why I ride!

Had some exciting dirt this morning....it was recently graded or is it grated? It was fluffy. The GS would just plow nose first in this stuff. This Dakar-inspired machine just skippies right across the top. There are occasional unintended 2 wheel drifts...that just adds some excitement.

Those of you who know me know I'm not smart. I so lots of stoopy things. This next part was just that.

Kids, don't read these next sentences. The look that cow gave (at my 2) me this morning was priceless. I figured a big single cylinder sounds like a growl to an animal. So my philosophy is to keep the rpms up (sounds less growly) as I go by cows. This bike has no tach, but there is a rotational limit on the throttle. in 6th gear.

Now back to safe reading. ..

Going to Page AZ today. Well, north of Page in the grand staircase Escalante. Breath taking views and very peaceful. It is a technical ride which means I won't see 4th gear at all. I will be quite tired tonight and tomorrow night.

I'll score more pics. Page does have a great breakfast place. Owner's from 2nd city. We talk pizza when I see him. I'll catch this place in October on my annual canyon run.

posting tomorrow will be later . No Internet cell towers where I'm riding.

tomorrow's destination is Escalante UT. I can almost taste the fine dining.

I brought appropriate clothing for these restaurants.
