We have 9 days of ADV riding mapped out in Idaho. The four riders all live in the Seattle area, so we will trailer the bikes to a start point and go from there! I will update this report daily from the route. This fall 2012 ride will begin in Lewiston Idaho. Idaho borders six states and one Canadian province. The states of Washington and Oregon are to the west, Nevada and Utah to the south, and Montana and Wyoming are to the east. The landscape is rugged, with some of the largest unspoiled natural areas in the United States. From Lewiston we ride south through Hells Canyon towards McCall and Boise. On day 3 we head East and begin our dance with the 2012 Idaho wildfires. We will be riding near the Sawtooth Range on our way to Sun Valley, and on to Rigby, ID. After a planned visit to the KLIM headquarters, we will head North through the Salmon River and Bitteroot Mountains. We intend to visit Darby, Elk City and Lochsa. We then head Northwest through the mountains to Wallace, and finish back in Lewiston on Day 9. While summer may be winding down, it's a blazing inferno in Idaho. Currently, there are over 500,000 acres worth of wildfires burning or burned out. The Map below is from the USGS, and show active wildfires in Idaho, along with our planned route. From an Idaho news report: "Not only are more of the nation's wildfires occurring in the West this year than last, but the fires have gotten bigger, said Jennifer Smith of the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho. As of Wednesday, 42,933 wildfires have been reported in the nation this season, burning 6.4 million acres. "Nevada has been hammered, and Idaho has some big ones that are going to burn until the snow falls," Smith said.
