And I miss you guys! So close ... yet so far away ... :cry

Is that little bar where the ADV bike club was meeting a few years ago still open and safe for a gringo? I am getting really tempted to explore a little bit around town ... have a few drinks and watch the TV.

I am game. You guys have been warned!

Casa WB has potential. We had another gentleman that had some get togethers last year - was that Pilot? - and we could attack his house too. :evil

In addition, we could take over Smokin' Aces on a slow night. The headbangers won't let us have the bar when there is a band scheduled, but otherwise the place is ours and I can bring in some decent food if desired.

(Just FYI there is a business "mixer" for the magazine that we are publishing at another bar on 17th Street in a few days ... 6th of May as I recall ... if that holds any appeal to people we can get you in.)

As an alternative we could all get together in downtown Reynosa at the Mission Bar. Surely there is a nearby hotel that would let us crash on the carpet in a "deluxe" room. :lol3:wink:

I have to confess that I have been an avid lurker of ADV for past couple of years. I met WB at Casa Blanca in Raymo a couple of months ago and struck up a conversation about his GS. When I mentioned that I rode a KLR in addition to my Wing, he mentioned he also was a member of the KilLeR fraternity. A couple of weeks ago PILOT815 and WB both helped me do the DOO on my bike. I really enjoyed the tech day and am most grateful for their help. Casa WB has to have the best garage set up I have ever seen!

Short bio: Started riding in '93 when I told the wife, "it's either I get a bike or a MOVIDA!" I was hoping for the movida but went out and bought a Honda PC800. Had that bike for a couple of years before moving up to a 1996 ST1100 which I had for about 10yrs and took my first cross country trip up to Wisconsin. In 2006 bought my current GoldWing. And this past October I bought the '09 KLR 650. I really enjoy riding the KLR and have already ridden it about 6K miles.

I look forward to meeting all the local and not so local inmates soon.

You want to tell him that's because I don't have a working bike at the moment and too much time on my hands. :lol3

    Dollar down, a dollar a week? :lol3:wink:

KLR's appeal to my head, but not my heart. I keep looking at them but ...

Is an 08' the new style or is that the old style?

What's the difference between the two?

08's are the new style. Very minor differences. Engine is the same. Suspension is a bit heavier duty on the new ones and the new ones actually have brakes. His is a 685. Thats a very needed mod on the KLR especially the 08's.

Stage II engine kit takes displacement to 685cc and reduces vibration. Adds a few (maybe 4-5) hp.

Also eliminates oil burning. My dads bike started burning oil so he had the engine rebuilt in Mexico. That made it worse. He brought it to me when it was burning about 1 quart every 500 miles. I put in the 685 and 4,500 miles later it hasnt burned a drop. I also put a higher gear ratio on it. It now cruises around 80mph comfortably.

Many riders report the same. My '08 still uses oil when running sustained hwy speeds.

Did you install the 16 tooth counter-drive sprocket?
