I never saw him race bikes (I'm old, but not that old), but did get to see him race at the 1970 Mexican Grand Prix. He finished 8th, a lap down, in his Surtees Ford.

He was under rated! If I'm not mistaken he started Autoworld racing parts in the 1960s in WilkesBoro PA.

He was definitely a racer! 4-time World Motorcycle Champion. F1 Champion. Only man to win World Roadracing Championships on 2 and 4 wheels. First to win the Senior TT at the Isle of Man 3 years in a row.

    He was larger than life...

    7-time World Motorcycle Champion, methinks.

Very sad news. Amazing racer and gentleman. Legend.

My father inlaw worked with him at Ferrari and said that very fiew drivers had the talent for working with mechanics like he did. The racing world lost another legend.
