Someone would have to be seriously screwed up to do that. I sure hope you're wrong. Not that I have an explaination for it either though.

Thousands of riders make it safely through that corner every weekend day and only a very small percentage get unsorted. I've ridden it many times myself and I assure you it not the pavement (or photographers), it's the rider. Sorry, but the explanation is really that boring...

I'm happy he's a celebrity that's a rider, never mind a smart rider (That would imply smart celebrity, and those are damn scarce, although Leno probably qualifies).

Helmet to match *what*? The jetbike isn't Leno's only bike- and finding helmets that his chin (not to mention the rest of his melon) fit into is probably a right bugger.

I'm willing to give Jay Leno a huge amount of slack on this one. He is a friend of all motorcyclists.

Leno is truly a good guy, which seems to be a rarity among celebrities. Years ago, just before he took over the Tonight show, he was in town doing a show. He sent tickets to the local Vincent club, and after the show he came to my friend's place to relax, eat and talk motorcycles. We spent several hours hanging out, and he was just one of the guys, unpretentious and down to earth.

What his garage show, that initially was just his money being used to show and teach about the cars and motorcycles in his and others' collections, does for young guys and for older enthusiasts is very respectable.

I know he got flak for what happened to Conan, but I always thought the better man of the two won out. Maybe not always the better comedian, but then that's not what we are talking about here, nor what I would support for the position.

I think that it's great that someone who can afford a collection like that uses it and operates everything in it regularly. So many wealthy collectors just have their vehicles sitting in a private museum with someone hired to dust them off occasionally. Jay has a full time staff that keeps everything operational and ready to go. All he does is call and say what he wants, and it's sitting in the door when he pulls in. My friend who got us the show tickets used to go and visit him once a year, and one Christmas Jay took him and his wife for a tour of the LA area in his Duesenberg phaeton.

Leno is a better comedian than most think. His best thing is a monologue using nothing on the stage but a stool, and he has no problem keeping a crowd laughing for an hour and a half. The Tonight show is not a venue where he's at his best.

You're absolutely correct. My wife and I had the opportunity to sit in the front row of company meeting with Leno doing an hour-long monologue. Not only was he very funny, the monologue was completely clean, not a single risque or inappropriate joke at all. And a good part of the monologue was car-oriented although not at all related to the company's business. It was great.

Ive had the chance to chat with Jay on several occasions out in the hills of LA and at the track at Laguna Seca. He is a genuinely nice and very approachable guy and a veritable encyclopedia of information about cars and motorcycles..... and very funny.

Fun watching all those expensive little pieces of plastic reattaching themselves.

Reminder of how many crashes occur on that same corner and how many people are watching and waiting...
