I had ordered Kevlar jeans just a couple days before the incident... :cry

My textile jacket, gloves, boots, and helmet all held up great though.

Now when your scabs heal up and you get those Kevlar jeans, go down to the DMV parking lot on a Sunday and practice your braking.

I am on a college campus nearly every day and the amount of scooter riders who are wearing sandals or flippy floppies is extremely high. They also drag their feet just about everywhere they go, even when they are ridding on sidewalks :dood (no, it is not legal).

From what I see, shoes are a high level of protection for scooter riders here. Of course all that goes out the window when a car is involved.

Most 50cc scooters will do 40-45mph... I wouldn't want to go down at 45?

Hell, I wouldn't want to go down at even 10mph. :huh

I guess I have been lucky.....I have never suffered anything more than road rash, and none of it was even photo worthy.

My daughter on the other hand?

2 broken jaws....when she got the first one, the impact was enough that it broke the chin bar on a carbon fiber helmet before getting to her chin. Surprising, THAT incident didn't require surgery....2nd one did...mouth was wired shut for 5 weeks.

    Bruise ribs twice.

    Bruise liver once.

She has more scars on her body at 16, than I have on mine at 51....mostly scrapes and road rash.

Broken bones in the back of her hands at least three times.

Two concussions....both of those occurred during the same crashes that resulted in the broken jaws.

Her last visit to the doctor was the Wednesday before Thansgiving, to have the wires removed from her jaw.

Where was she the very next day?

    Back on the track.

    Btw.....all of these injuries? BMX.

    Ugh.
Road rash is no joke. I dumped a bicycle as a kid on some Tarmac, while doing some stupid shit. Road rash all over my legs, shoulder, elbow. My aunt (ex nurse) scrubbed it out for me. I passed out from the pain.
This August, a deer tried to commit suicide into my GS, and put me in the hospital with a few broken bones. I hit gravel at 35mph. My Olympia x-moto gear saved my ass and my skin - literally. No rash at all. The ER staff could not believe it. The nurse checking me out in the ER asked me if I could imagine dealing with broken bones, and shredded skin at the same time - which they see often since the standard pirate riding apparel around here is jeans, t shirt and no helmet. For me it's all the gear, or no ride. One experience many years ago, was enough.
