It's a shame that this thread continues to be pushed off in a direction that has more to do with personal opinions, attitudes and values than it does with racing....But then again it's the internet and someone always feels a need to get in the last word....................sad.

After Robby had the two setbacks early on, I was not that impressed with his chances of ever winning a Dakar, but I am more optimistic since then. Seems like he is running very consistent stages. Much better!

In a video from stage 7 (I think) he also mentions the larger restrictor. Something along the lines of Nasser's Chassis being FIM compliant and thus allowing him to run a larger restrictor because of it.

He goes on to say that they will look into modifying their chassis for next year so he too, can run the larger restrictor. :clap:clap

What I love to see is Robbie's biggest critic is the one with the second highest
post count in a leg humper thread :deal :clap

My Robby opinion has evolved over the years.

2000: I used to manage an indoor kart track in Orange called Dromo1 while I was in school. Robby's shop was just down the street.

Robby rented the place for his dad's birthday. In the final race dad was on poll Robby started in back. RG picked his way through the field and came up on his dad in turn one. RG used his dads kart to slow for the turn and punted dad into the tires. The kart flipped launching dad over the tires. Everyone stopped but RG. I had to shut his kart down from the tower. I was not impressed. The owner, Larry, was tripping over himself to kiss any racer ass that came through the door. I got reamed by the owner for shutting RG's kart off.

Fast forward to 2010: We moved in to our house here in Havasu. After meeting the neighbors, we found out they were the grandparents of RGs son. I went to many parties and chatted with him quite a bit. Even had that Dakar support truck behemoth blocking my driveway. Watching how patient he was with his boy, my opinion evolved. He's just a talented guy trying to make a living. He seemed to have matured a bit himself since the Dromo1 days.

    I'm not quite a leg-humper, but I am a fan.

Yeah, I worked in Orange through the '00's and Robby had a local rep as a hot head from a number of stories.
We've all matured since then, I hope.

klatelm makes an interesting observation :nod all of these guys above have in the past either won or competed at the top echelon in DAKAR, other major international cross country rallies or ISDE/Enduro competition
as pro or factory supported riders. Even RG (who did some mx as a kid I understand) has chosen ex-bike/baja racers as his Dakar navigator on repeated occassions; Kellon, Andy Grider, Johnny Campbell.

An interesting observation... I've often wondered how Von Zitz and Picard would have gone as drivers...?

I suspect the reason for seeing so many motorcycle jocks in the vehicles has to do with "track vision". Those of you who race, or have raced bikes, know that the key to winning is the ability to avoid problems created by the track. That kind of vision comes from experience and those who have raced cross country/enduro/motocross have a well developed sense of where unseen problems are.

I am enjoying this thread quite a bit. My days in the woods with a rally car go back to the era of Satch Carlson and NO, there were no young girls used or abused.
