Nev it sounds better than it looks!
You said that already, now hurry up with the video so we can all hear it too
I have this bash plate on my KTM 690 R. No regrets. Solid, neat and functional. Bit expensive but really in a class of it's own. If you have travel in mind, this is the one!! Hell you could probably race with it too!! KTMatt is open to ideas to customize for your needs or wants.
I HAVE to know what model year that Transalp is, or is the body work custom? Either way, I want one LIKE THAT.
You don't buy them like this unfortunately. I've spent about 6 years building this to suit. I'll briefly break it down like this:
- Original frame, wiring, fuel tank and air box is the original '88 model bike I've had since 2003. It has about 152K kms on it;
- The front suspension is '98 XR600;
- The rear shock is '91 XR250;
- The engine is a '03 XL650V TransAlp;
- The Fairing is Boano;
- Exhaust system is both Arrow & Dennis Foran custom system;
- Rear Tanks by Matt.
I don't wish to high jack Matt's thread, so if you want to see / read more, check out the oz-hondavtwinners page in the Australian section, or a bit more detail in the Beasts section - "Show us Your TransAlp modifications"
Without pissing in any ones pocket, Matt is very easy to work with. He made a couple of mounting brackets that you cannot see in this pic. This tank shape is similar to that Matt makes for the KTM 640A's.
Make no bones about it, the tanks require plenty of time / labour and are not cheap. But, if you're after a top product, then Matt is hard to go past.
Is Matt still in business?
Im still building bash plates when I get a chance and have a few on order that I have to try and get done over the next week.
The DR bash plate is $645 for Advriders and the P&H will be $60 with insurance.
Also sent you a PM
I bought one for my 990 in '09 & couldn't be happier with it.
Built like a tank, OldDog has the 990 now & it still looks as good as the day I put it on.
Now if Matt ever make one for a tiger 800.........................
That's a nice looking 990 you had there, I gotta get me a nice big black R one day just gotta sell some more bash plates.
Ill be working on the new KTM 1190 bash plate in the next couple of weeks then I'll have to find me a Tiger and one of those BMW things as well.
So I was trolling around ADVRider here and found Matts stuff. Looking through the posts here I noticed something... not one note from a North American purchaser! So on that note here I am...
I have had one of these awesome rally guards on my 640ADV for I think 2 or 3 years. I love it! My bike spends 80% of its time in high desert ridding. It has held up perfectly and have had zero issues with it. I would highly recommend one of these for your bike.
FYI bought mine along with a buddy's and it saved a ton on shipping.
Its getting there gota finish the mounts and boxes yet.
The rear mounts a PITA and the front has to mount onto where the crash bars mount which I'm not overly happy about because it bolts straight to the motor but it don't look like there any other way. I might even change the shape a little so it blends into the shape of the bike a bit better

Matt, did you ever do both sides of the 640?
Not yet haven't had a chance but will if you want one.
