So is Beartooth highway route 212 between Mammoth and Red Lodge?
    Just double checking.

Edit..Some folks just told me there is a forest fire on route 212 making it hard to see..I will have to see if I can find road condtions to see if it is open.

Part of that is still in Yellowstone, (the Lamar Valley I believe, with lots of wildlife) then from Cooke City to Red Lodge becomes the Beartooth. Then you can take 212 to I-90 to get to Glacier,,, it's a haul, but it's still in the same state!
I have NOT been on Chief Joseph,,,, but as said earlier,,, you WILL enjoy Beartooth!

Shortly out of town I started seeing a bunch of Antelope.

The road was long and lonely with very little civilization along the way. They did have rest stops, and I got a history lesson.

The GPS had routed me into Grand Teton via the east entrance. I had thought I would be coming in from the South so I was all messed up for a while.
It was okay though because I came up over some pass where they were doing road construction so I got to ride some gravel and mud with a couple on a Harley from New Jersey. I didn't think to get a pic. Shortly after entering the park I got dumped on my a massive thunderstorm. I took shelter at the Jackson Lake Lodge , but not before I got wet and had a water crossing to get into their parking lot it had rained so hard.

A reminder of where I am at

I guess there have been two people killed in Yellowstone this year by Grizz.

I set up camp and spotted a couple mule deer about 30 yards from my tent.

I ate supper at the restaurant next to the campground and snapped a couple pics as the sun set on the Tetons.

    Grand Teton and Yellowstone.
I retraced some ground from the day before in order to get some pics in the morning light.

I wasn't sure how far it was from GT to YS, so I was surprised when I stopped for fuel and was told it was only 2 miles.

I planned on staying at the fed campground in Mammoth, but it was full when I got there. I followed the GPS's advice to the next campground. It was an RV place with cabins---no tents. The only cabin they had left was a 2 room for $81..So home for the night.

I really wanted a shower..fed campground in Teton had no showers, plus they had wifi so I can do a little research about my next move on the trip.
Plus the view from the front porch isn't bad either.

    So far so good.

I know what you mean about strengthening faith and all that. It's a crazy ride round the orb on this big rock sometimes.

I only covered 143 miles today. This was the first sub 400 mile day of the trip, I almost feel guilty. There were lots of stops for pictures and a couple side roads to explore in Yellowstone.

I did the Beartooth Highway today and it will definitely be one of if not the highlight of the trip. Currently in Conrad MT in a campground. Not going to try to upload pics as the wireless is kind of sporadic. But hey what can you expect for 12 dollars a night. Tomorrow it is off to Glacier and the Going to the Sun Road.
