My friend Mike Shirley (RenoMoto here on ADV) has been creating a tool that allows you to make roadbooks for fun rides and rally races. It's currently only for 6 inch wide roadbook format, but they are working on an option to enable narrow "roll chart" format. The tool is incredible, and improving every week! It makes the task of creating roadbooks (and soon for roll charts) super easy. Check out the videos below, and the website itself ( RallyNavigator.com ).

The tool runs in a web browser, with Google Earth running inside. It has a free version and pay versions. Jerry, an old dog is going to have to learn a new trick!

Notice that the mileages (or kilometers) are calculated automatically, the initial tulip drawing is generated automatically, and in some cases the text is generated automatically. Then you can go in and tweak the tulip and text to make them just the way you want. Amazing!

For roll charts, I expect they will adjust a few of the features since some things are different between roll charts and roadbooks, such as the compass headings which are normally not in a roll chart.

There are a lot more cool features, like GPX import and export, which are explained on the Rally Navigator website and somewhat in the videos.

I'm patiently waiting for the narrow "roll chart" format. Every time I check they continue to say they're working on it. I would bet that there would be a MUCH larger market for the narrow version over the full width Dakar version. You can get a narrow reader for as little as $30 but the cheapest Dakar reader will run you over $300+ :eek1.

Rally Navigator now supports narrow "roll chart" (dual sport) format. If you haven't tried it, take a look. It makes roll chart creation super easy!
