I was in Lexington, Illinois today and there is a promising new place about to open at the corner of Main Street and Old US 66. They are biker friendly -- the designation for motorcycle parking was just completed, and there is a BSA in the air over the roof. Kelly Tobin, "Owner and Pizza Master", as per his business card, told me that he used to race in AMA.

There will be indoor and outdoor seating and carryout too.

The carryout counter utilizes the driver side of a Chevy Truck

They are hard at work, getting ready to open (maybe in a couple weeks), but were nice enough to let me come in and wander around. It's going to be a neat place, where you will probably spot new details at each visit.

The restroom sign made me chuckle:

Out in front is a bench where Rt.66 Fans can pose for a picture. Here's the man in charge of Kelly's on 66:

Best wishes for a successful business launch! It's going to be a great place to visit.

That looks like a cool place, Ray. It just goes to show that the route is still alive and constantly evolving.

Raining in the Mohave Desert, Ca. The temperature was 65 degrees, so I went for a walk in the desert. It was AWESOME! The dry washes weren't dry.

Pedestrian tunnel in Sayre, Ok. not Chelsea like I originally posted. These are older photos. I heard there is a mural now in the tunnel.( in Chelsea, not Sayre) This was built in 1939 so people could safely cross Route 66 to attend church because of heavy traffic on 66.

The tunnel was built by the WPA. (Works Progress Administration)

These cars were spotted during the Illinois Rt. 66 Association Motor Tour. The owner/builder has a body repair shop in southern Illinois and a strange sense of humor. :lol3 They are both street legal.

The wheels on the top of this truck are connected to electric motors and rotate while he's driving.

I stand corrected. It is Sayre. Both towns have a tunnel. The pictures I posted are Sayre. I've edited the original post to reflect that. Thanks for the catch.

Bagdad Cafe. The movie of the same name was quirky, but interesting.

We've been to the one in Chelsea. At the time, it didn't have the mural yet.

This is the only one of our pics that I can find of it. It's from 2009. The red brick building in the background is in post #5493 of the old structure thread.
